I'm enjoying the Red Tip so much I don't even want to switch to anything else right now. It's that good.

My new year gifts have arrived from proraso and I've shaved with them. I liked the performance of pre-shave cream and how I felt after applying it. The aftershave is another thing. I absolutely love it! It smells awesome.
    Have a great weekend!

Day #3 of the seven day exploration: Haslinger Schafmilch shaving soap

    Prep
    : hot shower
    Music: Philip Glass, Akhnaten
    Brush: vintage DVH boar
    Soap: Haslinger Schafmilch shaving soap
Razor: Gillette Slim (birth quarter) @9
    Blade: Schick platinum blade
    Shave: 3-pass
Post: DVH alum, hand strop blade & reload upside-down

    SoS 2016-01-08 a.jpg

    The soap:
It has about the same hardness as Tabac, with a very light soapy scent.

    Ingredients:
    • Potassium stearate
    • Sodium stearate
    • Potassium tallowate
    • Aqua
    • Lac powder
    • Parfum
    • Sheep milk
    • Aracgis hypogaea
    • Lanolin
    • Potassium cocoate
    • Sodium tallowate
    • Sodium cocoate
    • Glycerine
    • Potassium hydroxide
    • Sodium hydroxide
    • Alpha-isomethyl ionone
    • Hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyd
Quite a list. I haven't the foggiest idea what most of the ingredients are. I recognize aqua, sheep milk, lanolin, glycerine, tallow thingy's and cocos thingy's.

    Lathering:
The brush loads quickly and forms lather as quickly as Tabac. The lather likes more water than Tabac, but then it is as slick as an eel in a bucket of snot.

    SoS 2016-01-08 b.jpg

    Shave:
The lather is nice and super slick. Wow! Really, really super slick. The slickiest lather I have got to date. On a scale from one to ten it comes at about fifty. I almost couldn't feel the razor.

After the pass the slickness is gone, though I read from others that the slickness stays. Perhaps the water from our tap is harder than elsewhere?

    After the shave:
A mild alum sting, the scent dissipates fairly quickly.

    Overall verdict:
This is a great soap of excellent quality which lathers easily and comes cheaper than Tabac (about three quarters of the Tabac price). I need to try the other scents! (aloe vera, coconut, honey, seeweed, marigolds, sage, sandalwood. There is a 'special ladies' soap: sandalwood & aloe vera)

    Shave result:
    DFS++. :)

    Have a great day, ya'll!

Great shave this morning. I did a two-pass WTG shave and ended up with a super smooth close shave (SSCS)...there is a new acronym for you! I find the more I use the Haslinger puck the more moisture it is absorbing and it only take 4 or 5 swirls with the brush to load. :chores016: TGIF...getting ready for the weekend!

Well, maybe it wasn't the soap. I switched back to the MWF. While not as bad as yesterday, it was still really bad. My wife had the audacity to ask, "Could it be your technique?" Muggle.

Hello everyone. Today marks the day of my first encounter with the infamous R41.

    0801 Kopie.jpg

    - RazoRock Mudder Focker
    - Semogue 1460
    - Mühle R41/EJ handle
    - Polsilver SI (#5)
    - Floid Vigoroso AS

After yesterday's fantastic shave with the Merkur Futur I did not actually HAVE to shave today, but I decided to go above and beyond duty just to serve this forum and its members. ;)

I used an EJ handle because for me it has the perfect lenght and is nicely balanced when paired with a Mühle head. Loaded the R41 with yesterday's blade, whipped up some nice lather from one of my favorite soaps and went to work. I couldn't feel much stubble this morning so I did not expect a lot of reduction from the first pass WTG, but boy was I wrong. From the moment the razor touched my face I recognized: this is something else. There was actually quite a bit of resistance when I started the first stroke, as if the blade got stuck in the hair. I never touched a straight razor but I imagine this might feel pretty similar. Light touch -- light touch -- light touch! That's what I constantly reminded myself of.

After the first few strokes I think I got the angle right (pretty close to riding the cap) and it actually became a very smooth and pleasant first pass. There is quite a lot of audible feedback (though different from the Futur) and you can always feel the blade. Reduction was very nice for a WTG pass and I think the razor might be pretty aggressive but can be tamed easily.

With the second pass I decided to go ATG, and here it became a little rough and tugging. Probably caused by the blade though - I guess I'll try a new one tomorrow. I still managed to finish the shave without any nicks, cuts or scrapes. Though it was not as close as yesterday's shave with the Futur (to be fair - I did a 3-pass-shave with the Merkur and just 2 passes with the R41). About 50% BBS, the rest DFS.

Initially the R41 did not impress me as much as the Futur did. It is a very good razor and it gives you a nice and close shave, but at the same time it's less relaxed, more arduous - you have to work harder. I'll use the R41 again tomorrow with a different blade to see if that makes any difference.

The Aftershave kept very quiet - but I discovered that Floid is not for me. Far too much menthol. It's not that I don't like menthol ... I detest it :scared007: So cold it almost hurt. Which is a pity, because the Vigoroso smells nice and seems to provide good skincare.

Here's my verdict on the Williams soap: It worked well enough with my new Omega 49 brush so it'll go back into my rotation, but I probably won't use it too often. I noticed a lack of blade glide, but what can you expect from such a cheap soap? At least I got a good, smooth shave! :happy088: :happy088:

Very very nice shave this a.m. The "O" clone is a good injector, for me anyway. It shaves smoothly and comfortably. The Shave Revolution Evolution brush is fantastic! Love the way it feels and works. So I would give this mornings shave an A and I'm ready to go. Now go enjoy your day folks

This was a strange shave, I've been dealing with a pulled rib on my left side for a couple of days. I hadn't shaved in 2-3 days? I did one pass and had to go sit down on my bed as my side is killing me, got up and did another, and finally the last pass. Avon Wild Country is nice stuff! It reminds me of Clubman, maybe a little sweeter, Nicer. I need to shave my head so bad. Maybe I'll do that later..
