  1. Got my first ever vintage razor. Ever Ready SE. Handle is in excellent condition and head is just a little tarnished with tiny scratches. Just need some SE blade recommendations. But won't try it until my 30 day focus is over. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

  2. Nice score! You have an Ever-Ready 1924, sometimes referred to as the "Shovelhead." You have the later version with the flattened teeth and the stamped base plate. These are considered some of the more aggressive SE razors, so proceed with caution.

Blade choices are much more limited than in the DE world, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The Gem stainless steel coated blades are probably the most popular, and are available in packs of 10 or in bulk. There are also a few carbon steel blades carrying the Gem, Pal and Treet brands, as well as house brand blades carried by CVS and Rite-Aid drug store chains.

The carbon steel blades must be removed from the razor and dried immediately after use, otherwise they will rust. It is breathtaking how fast this happens.

Watch out for blades from the hardwares stores. They look the same but are made for paint scrapers and box cutters and do not have a shaving quality edge.

You may find that you like SE shaving so much that you completely abandon your DE's.

    Happened to me. :happy088:

  5. Another plus is after your done shaving with your SE blade you can use it in your paint scraper/box cutter! I save all mine just for that purpose.

I had the most incredible shave tonight with my Schick Type F..I used an NOS Dutch made Super Stainless blade for the first time in the F Type & what a transformation..This injector with never see a Chinese Schick blade ever again..Its was as smooth as the Type D with this blade combo...I have fallen in love all over again with the Type F..I also used some LEA Tallow soap that I got through the post today..This stuff is Dynamite..Its fairly cheap in the UK but is more expensive in the USA I believe..I am just about converted to tallow soaps..Dolphin Smooth & refreshed..Time for a bottle of Red & a few Beers.. :eatdrink047:

  10. Just picked up these beauties. Slim head 1912 is US made. Other 3 are British. Can't wait to see how they shave. I already own a US made 1912.

  12. I finally got myself a PAL adjustable. I received it today. It cleaned up pretty good. It looks to be the second version. I was going to shave with my Bunny razor with twin blades. Plans change so I will be giving the PAL a whirl.

  14. What? No single malt? You are a Scot aren't you?....Hey, I'm a Chisholm, never been to the Highlands, but a Chisholm none the less and just hearing about a shave like this...I need to sip a wee dram of a single malt, that is at least old enough to shave.....

I want to come over some time and check out the old family digs...Erchless Castle.....we'll have to hook-up and share a wee dram of some of my homelands finest while I'm there...:eatdrink047:
  15. Today's shave was not meant to e a shave off, but kind of went that way...
Preshave: Hot Shower with whisker shampoo
    Lather: Arko/Srt.Razor Designs Blood Orange
    PAL Injecto-matic, this time I tried a Long's Drugs/Personna d1
    Did 2 passes and touch-up...
A very fine DFS, but not a BBS by any means....
At the last minute I relathered and grabbed my ER 1914, and did a couple more passes...the first strokes were loud as the Little Lather Catcher removed the rest the whiskers...Now I'm sporting a first class BBS.....

  18. I had a fun Sunday shave with my Valet! It's been over a year since I've used this razor and don't remember the shave being this good. Used a new feather blade and ended with a 3 pass BBS shave. Have a great day everyone!
