Aye those English made 1912s are quite aggressive shavers compared to the USA made ones...A different animal altogether in my experience ...That Gem round or curved cap is an early model ...Its been said that they are better shavers than the later flat caps...I haven't got one..Its also been said that the head is the same as the 1912 Damskeene...This one has caused some debate..My brother has got one and I would say that its not got a curved or round cap Damaskeene head...I have a Damaskeene...The Gem model you have there has a so called new improved 1912 base plate with a curved or round cap...Unlike the USA made 1912s the British never made any changes to their 1912 model..:)

Thank you Billy. I tried the round cap 1912 today and it was fantastic. Much much smoother than my US made Gem 1912. It almost seemed mild but with aggressive razor results.

Glad you like it..These don't often come up these days..I don't know why they changed it because as the USA made 1912s move through the timeline some of them were Abysmal in my humble opinion ..Some of the later Gem Junior 1912s are a joke...Those Brit ones are Aggressive buggers an all & can be quite harsh..:p

This injector set arrived today, pretty much unused and very nice! I'm not sure what I have here, I know it's a type G but the case is something I can't find any information about, none of the resources show a case like this? Anyone have input? That was one of the first models with an Eversharp stamp on the spring...The earlier one had Schick injector stamp on the spring...Its probably a 1948/49 release...:)

I gave my Schick Adjustable Twin blade Combo for a whirl this morning with some New VITOS Green Tallow Soap that I got through the door yesterday..I am on a Tallow soap purge at the moment & haven't looked back...I have been blind to Tallow soaps but not anymore..I just keep getting Awesome shaves & long may it continue...For me there just nothing that compares to a good Tallow soap..Its a Game Changer for me personally..Dolphin Smooth, refreshed & my skin feels Rejuvenated...:)

Another great shave with my Gbar today! Man this razor is a real pleasure to use, very smooth and very efficient. The question I have is when were they made, before or after the Micromatic?

The OCMM was introduced in 1929/1930..Well before the G Bar...The Clog Pruf came out in 1941 & Bullet Tip in 1947..The G Bar was released shortly after that I believe.:)

    Shave Noir....
It was a cold rainy night, and I was preparing for a rendezvous down at the pier.....

All kidding aside....this I2 is still my "Highlander" razor ( if there can be only one)....what a joy...
And today along with a Chinese nSchick blade...My shave was delightful...This combo feels very mild but it did produce a 2 pass BBS...

    Great Shaves for Everyone....

    Razor- J1 Eversharp Schick Injector
    Blade- Chick
    Brush- VdH boar
    Soap- VdH Deluxe

And now for something completely different...

I've probably been shaving to some degree for almost 40 years. Back then, I started with a DE, dabbled with a Gem I had picked up somewhere (all I remember is the blades kept rusting so quickly) and dallied with a couple of rummage sale electrics. Over the years, I've used most of Gillette's two- and three-blade cartridges and Lord knows how many disposables. That was until this past September when I again picked up a DE razor and joined the ranks of Traditional Wet Shavers. In all that, though, I had never used an Injector razor until today.

The J1 Schick was something of an impulse eBay buy- opening bid of $1.99 w/$3.90 shipping and I ended up with the only bid. To be honest, I fully expected to lose this auction. The Chick blades are, of course, from Amazon. Going into today's shave, I wasn't sure what to expect. Based on what I've read here, I gather that the J1 is about mid-range to mild on the aggressiveness scale. No playing with unfamiliar soaps or brushes today; I went with the VdH combo that I have the most experience with.

As for the shave- all I can say is "Wow, I'm impressed." I had no problems finding the correct angle. I wasn't at my fuzziest today (though I did skip shaving yesterday), but had no problem with beard reduction. The J1 is mild, but seemed very efficient. In the end, probably one of the closest shaves I've had and perhaps the closest I've come to the BBS grail. No weepers and no obvious irritation.

I have a bit of an investment in DE razors and blades, so I'm kind of wondering what I've gotten myself into...

The J1 is very underrated in my book. It's one of my favorite injectors. Enjoy it!

Fantastic..The later Schick Injector models are pretty much centre left in terms of aggression...They are very smooth & efficient shavers & they can still offer a bite or weeper without some attention..They can feel effortless but they aint no Pussy Cats either..I have an array of very aggressive injectors but so the called Milder or later Models are in my rotation more & more..:p

    Schick Hydro Injector
NOS Dutch Super Stainless Blade x 4
    Kent BK 2 Badger Brush
    VITOS Green Tallow Soap (Italy)
LOGONA Mann Aftershave Splash (From Germany)

I had an outing with my Dutch made Hydro & NOS Dutch blade combo today..I had my first shave with a newly acquired Kent BK2 badger brush..My first Badger brush that I have ever owned...It sure is a luxury item..I like it an all..I enjoyed the experience very much..Doesn't improve the end result but the journey sure is a lot more luxurious no bones about that..Kinda like the difference between holding hands with Wee Mary from round the corner & a 6 foot blonde with legs all the way up to her armpits..:happy102:

The later Schick injector Models are the only ones that I get the odd Micro nick from..I reckon its because I don't spend as much time with them and when I do use them I am just a tad more reckless with them...That's said the Schick D, E & F Types are a tad smoother shavers than later models although they are more aggressive...Well for me anyway...Its an interesting one...I am on my 4th three pass shave with this Dutch made blade & its still a lot sharper than any current blade fresh from the box..Dolphin Smooth & refreshed & many thanks to the badger that donated his/her hair for my brush..:lyrtuy5:

Congrats and welcome to the Party! I'm laughing at what @Karl G said, although I guess I have piffed all my DEs now except one....:happy097:....But it doesn't hurt to keep them around....for a reference point, or stroll down memory lane from time to time....

BTW, I've always thought the 'J's were beautiful razors...that handle is like an artist's bruch for detail work...}8^)) And as far as effective shaving....I've never met a Schick Injector I didn't dig....

Today was a shave tribute to my Dear Ole Dad

    Hot whisker rinse
    Arko-face lathered
    Omega 10029 Baby-Pro
    1955 Eversharp-Schick Hydromatic
    Schick (Chinese) d2
Aqua Velva Ice Blue/Clubman Special Reserve

The first time I ever noticed my Pop shaving I was mesmerized. I'll never forget it, because as I walked by I looked in his shave cave, dug the action...Sat down and watched and asked questions. My Pop was into it and showed me every detail. And his daily 'me' time became 'our' time for a while. Finally he got me a toy super speed with cardboard blades and we shaved together...I guess I was about 4ish...

But onething I could never forget was his Schick Hydro-magic...all gold, shiny and his injecting a new blade and using the hydro-magic lever to rinse it out. Whats not to like? That was a 4 year old or experienced adult shavers dream razor...and is still "State of the Art" if you ask dozens of fans...

After a while I lost interest in play shaving every morning and over the years I lost track of Pop's razor as he switched to an L type for years...But about 10 years after that life defining moment of discovering Pop shaving, I was ready to start shaving myself...I bought a new late 60's Super Speed and at breakfast Dad said let me see the new razor. I proudly handed it over to him and he shook it. And as those late 60's Gillettes do it rattled and Pop smiled and said, "Good luck, you're a braver man than I" and I asked what he meant and he replied, "I don't know if I'm man enough to get up first thing in the morning and put a razor blade to my throat in something that rattles like a maraca, ha,ha"

Of course this took a bit of wind out of my sails, as Dad left the table and went back in his bedroom, only to return saying, "Would you like to have a real razor?" And handed me that Hydro-magic....He had filed it for me almost 10 years ago, knowing how much I dug it.....and the rest is history...

Today I wielded another early Hydro-magic exactly like that one....and the shave was fantastic...My Pop knew what he was doing when he picked out that razor back in the mid 50's....It's still as good as it gets...
