    Razor- J1 Eversharp Schick Injector
    Blade- Chick
    Brush- VdH boar
    Soap- VdH Deluxe

And now for something completely different...

I've probably been shaving to some degree for almost 40 years. Back then, I started with a DE, dabbled with a Gem I had picked up somewhere (all I remember is the blades kept rusting so quickly) and dallied with a couple of rummage sale electrics. Over the years, I've used most of Gillette's two- and three-blade cartridges and Lord knows how many disposables. That was until this past September when I again picked up a DE razor and joined the ranks of Traditional Wet Shavers. In all that, though, I had never used an Injector razor until today.

The J1 Schick was something of an impulse eBay buy- opening bid of $1.99 w/$3.90 shipping and I ended up with the only bid. To be honest, I fully expected to lose this auction. The Chick blades are, of course, from Amazon. Going into today's shave, I wasn't sure what to expect. Based on what I've read here, I gather that the J1 is about mid-range to mild on the aggressiveness scale. No playing with unfamiliar soaps or brushes today; I went with the VdH combo that I have the most experience with.

As for the shave- all I can say is "Wow, I'm impressed." I had no problems finding the correct angle. I wasn't at my fuzziest today (though I did skip shaving yesterday), but had no problem with beard reduction. The J1 is mild, but seemed very efficient. In the end, probably one of the closest shaves I've had and perhaps the closest I've come to the BBS grail. No weepers and no obvious irritation.

I have a bit of an investment in DE razors and blades, so I'm kind of wondering what I've gotten myself into...

    1/13/2016 Wool Fat Wednesday

Prep: Hot shower with Neutrogena Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Mongoose B2, H. Boker Master Razor straight razor
    Blade: Feather Professional (8)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Mitchell's Wool Fat
After: Home made ASB, Nivea Cooling ASB
    Cologne: Cuir Cannage

A very cold single digit morning, BRRRR! The #6 brush whipped the MWF into a wonderful lather. I had enough lather in my scuttle to do 10 passes. The Boker and the Mongoose did their jobs with distinction. The Nivea ASB and the Cuir Cannage were a nice finish for this almost BBS shave.

    Have a blessed day!

It's just another wonderful AD waiting to be explored. You should try the Shick Magazine Repeating Razors, they are wonderful shavers and such a great design.

Odin's Day: Day 6 of my second set of blade trials

Prep: Hot Shower, Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash
    Brush: Omega #11575 Boar
Lather: Ginger's Garden Jasmine Amber with clay and mango butter
Razor: Birth Year/Quarter Gillette Black Handle Super Speed
    Blade: Gillette Silver Blue (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (7, 8, 9)
Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's Witch Hazel, Pinaud Clubman aftershave splash
    Cologne: -

Took yesterday off from shaving to let the nick on my chin heal up. I just love the scent of this Ginger's Garden soap, and all of Irena's clay and mango butter vegan soaps just seem to be fantastic performers for me. The scritchiness is all but gone from the Omega (that's a good thing). I don't know why it is, but the GSB performed better today, in the SS, than it did the other day in the Merkur, as I got nearly BBS results without any injuries or irritation. The Clubman came out as a little larger 'dose' than I normally use, so I skipped the cologne in order to avoid being That Guy.

    Razor: Gillette 1947 Super Speed

Brush: Frank Shave Finest Badger (travel brush) 20/45
Soap: Route 66 A Perfect Gent
    A/S: Myrsol Blue

Excellent shave again today with this combination. Love the razor, blade, soap, brush, and after shave. This soap has a clean, masculine fragrance with citrus notes of yuzu, bergamot and lemon; mid notes of peppercorn, ginger, jasmine and a hint of peppermint. Anchored by essential oils of cedar, vetiver, labdanum, frankincense and patchouli. The long lasting, slick lather protective cushion and glide soothing post shave conditioning. Hard to go wrong with this shave soap.

Back to the Type F today. I've been on the road and had some nice shaves - particularly with my early Type E2 but the F caught my eye upon my return. It is hard to imagine why Schick didn't return to this design after the war ended and production for civilians resumed.
