A January 30-day focus with my Schick Type C1 - The Simplified Schick Automatic Razor.

    Razor: Schick Type C1
Blade: NOS Schick Platinum Plus circa 1980 (USA) (2)
    Soap: La Toja stick

On the road, with a very early morning shave.

The second shave with this combo. Yesterday's shave was close enough with this blade that I decided to go for a 1-pass ATG. I wasn't disappointed. Very smooth, clean and comfortable. I may get by with another one-pass tomorrow!

With the results I'm getting from three different blades, I am perplexed. Either it almost doesn't really matter which blade I use, this razor is that good; or I need more time and experience as a shaver to really be able to discern slight differences with blades. I'd suspect it may be a combination of the above. Tough problems to have!

    Cheers!

No but that one was really nice. Somebody also got A last week that looked pretty nice.

I see you reached the same conclusion about blades with this razor....It's a blade equalizer!....although I do believe with most injectors, blades do make a big difference....but not so much with this guy....although I haven't tried the "twins" yet....

I got me some twin blades to try out thanks to friend of mine.

Without me reading all the way back, can someone (billy?) chime in with which razor I should be trying these guys in?

As I recall, anything from L and beyond, but also nothing with a hydro-magic lever. (is that right Billy?)
I think he also said that it will be good to go in the Repeaters because the thickness of the Twin is closer to the thick blade original used in the Repeater.

    I think.

(as mentioned above, I'll be trying a twin in my C1 sometime in the next two weeks in my C1 blade trials.)

I remember Billy said they were magnificant in the Type C repeater...But he didn't send them through the loading mechanisim...He hand loaded and got a great shave....

Other than that, also NO on the PAL Injecto-matic...will kill the razor as with anything with the Hydro-matic lever and a big NO on the E and G types because those heads are tighter than the later types...

    And also everything Rufus said....

    Hope this helps...

The lads are spot on..The Twins don't Fit any PAL Injector...They fit all later Schick Injectors that were made after the G Type without the rinsing lever function..That does not include the G Type..These are Crazy sharp & demand a "Feather like Touch"...Here is the thing...I have been using Crazy sharp NOS blades for some time now & they can be a learning curve...Its very easy to damage an edge on a really sharp blade on the first shave or two with them by using the same technique when using current blades...:)

When you are using these you gotta have a mind set that you are using another razor and start again...Some of these NOS blades are not as forgiving as a Chick blade simply because they have a real fine edge and its easy to damage it and round it off...These are a Game Changer in a Repeater but you have 1 mm more blade exposure & its not for the faint hearted...I would get used to them first in other injectors before you even thought about that ...Its like shaving with a Surgeon's Scalpel with the Twins in a Repeater...You will enjoy these blades because they are game changing in any injector you use them in...:p

If these don't blow you away ..I will eat my socks..Right off to the washing machine...:happy102:

Thanks guys. You saved me an hour of searching/rereading posts. I think I might save them for the Type C repeater. Im pretty much used to ultra sharp shaving with the Mongoose loaded with a Feather Super Pro blade (closest thing to straight shaving in my experience).

According to my brother the Mongoose is Tame compared to some of the NOS blade Injector Combos ...My brother put a Cut Down Feather Pro blade into a Schick Type G he couldn't believe how aggressive and sharp it was..He didn't believe me..He phoned me up about it & Raved on for ages..:)

I'm on my month-long blade test in my C1 and haven't had anything but excellent shave with the three blade types I've used so far.

Schick Chinese, Dutch Danglies (NOS Schick-Holland) and just finished up with the NOS Schick Plus Platinum)

I've got three more blades to try and they're all reputed to be very sharp by you guys including the Twins and I'm thinking of using the Fergie Feather - @Billyfergie cut down Feather Pro blade.

I'm real excited for the rest of this month and the C1!

Decided on a two-pass shave to solidify technique. Another great shave. I have gone through three different blade types so far with three more to go, so I’ll be switching blades again tomorrow.

On another note…I switched to the P.160 today just for a bit of variety from my test soaps of Arko and La Toja. I search for soaps that not only work to set up my shave but also help condition my skin. This one seems to accomplish that need.

But this time of year, especially during the cold, dry days of winter, I notice my skin can dry out a bit more than usual. So I’m going to try using a skin conditioner. I’ll continue my post shave routine of a cold water rinse, followed by witch hazel, but instead of an aftershave splash I’m going to start using a skin conditioner.

Today it was one from Ginger’s Garden.

I was fortunate to win the TSD Monthly Newbie Giveaway when I joined back in May ’15 and part of the great package was a gift certificate from Ginger’s Garden. Their aftershave balm is excellent. I really do not like balms that go on greasy. They just seem to get greasier as the day goes on. With this one, after a few minutes the balm has been absorbed by my skin. If you like that great aftershave feeling of your BBS shave, this product heightens and prolongs the feeling. No scent, but 6 hours after my shave I still have that smooth feeling to my skin that I had immediately after the shave. I have their Beard Oil too. Real solid products.

    Cheers!

Love the modification to your tag lines.

BTW - I ordered some Palmolive shave stick for a trip I have coming up soon as another alternative to Arko or La Toja - I'll let you know what I think. ;)

Yeah, next thing you know someone will tip me off to a Type F for sale (like the Type D) ;) and I'll have to revise the NB'16 tagline yet again! :angry032:

You know I don't mind the Arko and La Toja, but yes, please let me know how the Palmolive works for you. :happy088:

Sorry Roger, I can't believe I never posted it in the Injector/SE Party thread! :angry032:

It just happened Saturday night. I actually posted my good fortune in the thread about falling off the No Buy 2016 wagon.

and it was good fortune, as a couple of my new best friends from the Injector / SE Party gave me the alert AND helped me move a BIN bid and close the auction early.:eatdrink047:

I expect to have it on Friday. Photos upon receipt!

30-day focus with my Schick Type C1 - The Simplified Schick Automatic Razor.

    Shave 10

    Razor: Schick Type C1
Blade: NOS Personna 74* (USA) (1)
    Soap: RazoRock P.160

    01-15-16.JPG

After another fine shave yesterday, just enough stubble grew to justify a shave this morning. If this was a weekend, I probably would have called it good. But it’s a workday so off we go with a two-pass shave.

I have gone through three different blade brands and started a fourth one today.

I am not very familiar with these blades, but stumbled upon them recently and thought I’d give them a try. These have probably been sitting for awhile as it took some coaxing to get the dispenser to kick one out. No rust or blade damage so I hand-loaded it into the C1. It fit noticeably tighter into the head than the previous blades I’ve used. I like the snugness of this one - with the thinner ones I have a bit of an alignment chore to deal with when loading. Not so much with this one.

Two passes and done. Like the other three blades I’ve used in the blade trials, this one gave and excellent shave as well. I noticed a couple of weepers and sense that this is a sharp blade. I may not shave again until Sunday or perhaps even Monday to test the sharpness and smoothness of the blade with a developed beard.

    Cheers!
