Hello folks, good evening. Here's tonight's SOTD; 1914 ABC set Basketweave case, Shell pattern razor. Personna Platinum Chrome blade. Omega Travel Brush-(Boar) Cella Shaving Soap. Avon Mesmerize post shave conditioner. Avon Mesmerize cologne. This is one aggressive razor/blade combo. Don't get me wrong, I love my ABC sets, but for some reason, this particular set up is aggressive. I rate this shave at a BBS. Here is the photo- Have a restful night everyone.
Today was the day. After applying some of the hone and strop restoration tips from this awesome thread by @gregindallas it was time to try out the Rolls Razor I bought at the end of the year. I'd honed it many, many times and stropped it quite a few times as well and the difference was easily noticeable. I have to say, it takes an act of faith to put this thing to your face for the first time. It's pretty much just a straight on a stick. Right from the start it was tugging and pulling like a first grader with their mom at the fair. I soldiered on with trying angle changes, stroke length and speed, pressure, etc. but to no avail. It got worse under my chin and, despite my generally stubborn nature, I called it quits halfway through the first pass. My two day stubble was still easily visible where I had put blade to face. Darn. I guess I need to invest in a honing service or some stones or lapping film - something I was hoping to avoid. So, what to salvage the day's shave with? Ah, my 1924 was at the ready and a nice choice to follow the 1914 I had shaved with the other day. Ever reliable, aggressive yet smooth, it made short work of it and left me with no nicks, no cuts, no weepers and one really close shave. MLK Day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Has long been a role model for me. I love his message and dedication to non-violence. History shows that violence is easy and really does not solve anything - it only delays the inevitable solution. We must confront the causes of our problems instead of just addressing the symptoms or trying to kill our way to peace. Non-violence is not passive, it is actively taking the harder path of engaging with, and yes, loving, our enemies as fellow human beings and not as caricatures or stereotypes. Only then can we build understanding and approach real solutions. Hello everyone. Glorious winter day over here in Berlin, so I just had to slot in a quick "snowtheme day" and try my new birth quarter razor. - Proraso white - Semogue 1305 - 1965 Gillette Slim Adjustable on 5 - Sputnik blade - Proraso white ASB As much as it hurts me to say that ... I have to admit - the Merkur Futur is a better shaver than the Slim. Shave was pretty good actually, but it lacked the smooth effectiveness of the Merkur. Maybe I have to get accustomed to the Gillette first, but on the other hand the Futur impressed me right with the first shave. The Proraso soap performed solidly, as did the ASB. No irritations, DFS+, close to BBS. I can get shaves like this with any razor now, so the more interesting question will be: how long does it last? Hope it's appropriate to finish this with one more of my pictures:
There's nothing like my Menthol Monday shave where I go for the max in freezing and the Glacial Wintergreen trio was the ticket! (BBS as well from my new Astra in the Super Speed!)
