Menthol Monday: Day 9 of my second set of blade trials

    Prep:
Hot Shower, Nivea Moisturizing Face Wash
    Brush: Simpsons 56 Best Badger
    Lather: RazoRock One-X croap
Razor: Birth year/quarter Gillette Black Handle SS
    Blade: Q-Ball Platinum Plus (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG, XTG (7, 8, 9)
Post: Cold water rinse, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's Witch Hazel, RazoRock One-X aftershave splash
    Cologne: Xeryus by Givenchy

Late posting of an earlier shave. The Q-Ball performed pretty impressively on Day 3 of its first run, all told. With the amazing lather I always get from the One-X and the 56, it had some help. That said, I could tell that the combination of the blade's 3rd day and my mildest razor made it a bit more challenging, at least in terms of tracking my progress by feedback. Less feedback did not produce an inferior shave, though. I was near-BBS results without any irritation or bloodshed, yet again, without ever having felt like I had to be supremely cautious with the blade. In my personal opinion, if you're a fan of how the Bic, the Dorco-301, or the Treet Platinum shaves, the Q-Ball Platinum Plus might be worth a try. (Insert boilerplate disclaimer about YMMV here).

Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed (Z3)
    Feather (3)
    Kent BK8 silvertip badger
    Arko
    Two passes
Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Pinaud Clubman
    1961 Bulova "His Excellency"

I plan to stay with my current setup, featuring a Super Speed from my Bride's birth quarter for two more weeks. This will conclude a two-month run, and I've been able to optimize a two-pass shave by focusing on the basics. A combination of tweaks in my technique now allow me to approach a near-BBS shave on most days. Because of its simplicity and overall effectiveness, the SS is my official 'go to' travel razor.

I included my 1961 Bulova "His Excellency" wristwatch in the SOTD photo. This model is the "E," and it sold new for $79.50. It has a manual wind 10BP Bulova movement, which gives it a slim profile. You can find vintage Bulova watches at reasonable prices in antique stores, and they are terrific dress watches. The cases have date codes, and this one is from my birth year. And this example is even more special to me, as it belonged to my Bride's dear Uncle Bill. My Bride had the case, dial, and movement restored for me as a Christmas present a few years ago. An alligator strap and an authentic Bulova clasp replaces the original metal expansion bracelet, which I kept.

The man that shaved with a Super Speed and Arko also wore a Bulova wristwatch and used Pinaud Clubman aftershave. That'll be me tomorrow. I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

    Anticipated Shower for Jan 19.

Bodywash-Dove Care + for Men "Clean Comfort"
    Soap-Dial 4 Men "Odor Guard"
    Shampoo-Suave for Men Heritage Edition
    Deodorant-Speedstick Gear

I look forward to the Dove..nicest smelling bodywash of theirs that I've come across so far. The Suave Shampoo has signs on it similar to my Rise Cooling Balm A.S. It says "New" and Since 1937". Well, it's like my car...some new features and some old features thrown together.

Thanks, a simple Whipped Dog 24 synthetic, one of my favorite brushes, if not the fanciest.
