What an elegant photo @Darkbulb! Beautiful razor/brush combo. Does it take mach3 blades? Very cool!

    Thanks :)
Yeah it's a Concord razor handle with a Mach3 cartridge. Nice, heavy metal handle.

Razor: Gillette Black Beauty (R2) 1971
    Blade: Personna SS Lab (5)
Brush: White Handle Nylon 3-D WD 24-67 Silver Tip
    Soap: Proraso Cream
    Bowl: White Nylon 3-D
    A/S: Lucky Tiger

I believe I have the brush and the bowl correct. The brush fits the hand perfectly and the knot whips up an amazing lather. The bowl is a perfect size and allows for enough room to build an excellent lather. Thank you Secret Santa for a great gift. DFS today!!!

Today I switched to my standard bearer blade, the GSB. I wanted a close in time comparison with the Bolzano I just used. Today was an excellent shave as always with the GSB and Executive. I think the Bolzano is sharper than the GSB but every bit as smooth. No irritation from either blade and no problem with 1 day growth or multiple days' growth. These two blades are going to be 1A and 1B for me.

Prep: Hot Shower/ Nivea Sensitive Face Wash
    Pre-Shave: PAA Ice Pre-Shave Soap
Soap: Barrister & Mann Latha Taiga
    Brush: Semogue OC Boar
    Razor/ Blade: Merkur 1906/ Voskhod (1)
    Astringent: Alum
    Post-Shave: Nivea Cooling Balm
    Aftershave Splash: Captain's Choice North

Sorry I have been a way for a few days. I have been shaving, just haven't been able to post. I am back in Boston in the frigid Tundra. No more warm beach days from sunny San Diego for me. First day of the second semester today. I will now be able to get back into my daily SOTD posts. The shave last night was great. The Barrister & Mann Latha series is one of my favorite soaps, and the Taiga scent is perfect for winter--woodsy and cedar. Used the Semogue OC Boar and got a good lather, but not fantastic, which I attribute to me adjusting back to the hard water of Boston. The 1906 is a fantastic razor--very mild but still effective. I traveled without my Muhle r89 and honestly don't feel like I am missing it. Tried the Nivea Cooling Post shave balm today, too. It is different than their regular (says it has Chamomile, Vitamin E, and Seaweed Extracts). Cooling sensation is very mild but nice, although scent is a little weird. I like the scent of the regular Nivea Sensitive Balm much more, but this one is more moisturizing. Captain's Choice north paired well with my Polo Red Intense cologne today and shielded my face from the freezing winds. Hope everyone is staying warm!

Thanks for comparing the two versions of Nivea. I've been wondering about the cooling balm and how it compared to the sensitive. I've been using the sensitive balm for a LONG time and can't think of shaving without it.

Good luck with your semester and stay warm!!

Your Boar is starting to break in. Use it everyday for the next 30 shaves and you'll have a fantastic lathering machine.

I don`t have a camera right now, but I`m working on it. First (after hot water soak). I apply Secret Shave oil, wait 2 mins. then apply Walmart brand canned lather. Then I allow my J1 to do it`s magic. 1st pass, WTG, 2nd pass ATG along with CTG on cheek to edge of ears. The whole right side, down to the apple, then do the left side the same way, with a light clean-up....... Voila! a near BBS. Second day on Ted Pella blade. I`m running a test to see just how cheap I can go, then I`ll go back to my regular routine. I normally get 5 good shaves on 1 blade. After a 2 blade run, I`ll run a test on 2 de blades. probably Personna blues ( my favorite) and 2nd blade a Personna red (Israeli). I won`t compare de blades against injectors. That wouln`t be fair because of the price difference.

Everyday even if it doesn't completely dry out? Ok I can do that. I'm also breaking in my Semogue OC Badger.

I had a particularly enjoyable shave today. Don't have a huge selection to choose from so if you've seen me mention these items before my apologies. I've decided that every month on payday I'll be adding to my collection - whether it be cream, brush, lotion, cologne or whatever else. So my den will build up over time. Now that I've reclaimed our ensuite bathroom as my own and commandeered the cabinet there I must stick a pic up soon.

    Anyway the shave:
Shower first and forewent the hot towel. Soaked the Black Silvertip Special brush while in the shower. Started with Prorasa sandalwood preshave balm. Left that sitting on the skin while getting the rest ready. Decided the use the Muhle blade that came with the razor to try it out. Very nice blade I have to say. If anyone knows where I can buy more of them they'd make it into the rotation. Speick cream. 4 pass - WTG,WTG,XTG,ATG. After rinsing with cold water some Bull Dog after shave balm and then Ted Baker Cologne to top it off.

The blade seems excellent. I will pick some up if I can find them somewhere reasonable.

Absolutely. Badgers take a while too, but they start off softer. The Boar needs a workout.
