the black pearl is very nice. all route 66 soaps deliver thick rich and slick lather. the scent of the pearl is a light soapy clean smell. it has a spiciness that makes you want more, but by no means could it be called anything like loud.
I found it a very nice base for a cologne named legend for men (by Jafra).
    it's very good.

This is the 6th day on the Ted Pella blade. It seems that I stretched it 1 day too many. Here`s my opinion to wit: The 6th shave this morning wasn`t a BAD shave but not really what I prefer. Doing the math, you do not gain enough(dineros) to make it worth while. 5 shaves = 4. 9 cents, 6 shaves = 4.08 cents according to my calculator( @ 24.5 cents per blade).

    The same routine as before:

    Razor: Schick J1 (my lady)
    Oil: Secret Shave
    Lather: Equate can
    Blade: Ted Pella

Hot water, oil (2 min. wait), lather (shake well), ATG on 1st pass from apple to ear, then across cheek to ear, do the same on other side. 2nd pass. Thin layer of lather all over. Allow Lady J to do her magic, and she does so well. Got a weeper on 1st pass and I could feel it, so I guess the blade finely got dull. So for my part, 5 shaves is pretty good for one blade. With the cheap prep items, I don`t think it would add any more than a penny to the overall cost per day. The prices I quoted above were for blades only, with better prep materials might make that 6th shave worth it...... ?

I`ll start my de cheapskate test on Monday.

Great write up and assesment @billdog2. I use Shave Secret Oil myself often. I find it to be exceptional and has a pleasant scent as well. [IMG]

2 pass DFS because 3 shaves is all I can get out of this blade and it was starting to go. Not bad, but I'm still feeling a bit scraped.

•Men's Choice Brisk (SB knockoff). Just applied some Heno de Pravia several hours later and boy does it feel better now.

Prep: Hot Shower/ Nivea Men's Sensitive Face Wash
    Pre-shave: Proraso White Cream
    Soap: Proraso Red Sandalwood
    Brush: Semogue 1460 Boar
    Razor/ Blade: Merkur 37c Slant/ Personna Lab Blue (1)
    Astringent: Witch Hazel
    Post-Shave: Nivea Sensitive Cooling Balm
Aftershave: Captain's Choice Sandalwood (not pictured)
Cologne: Polo Intense Red (love it)
Didn't shave last night so had a great shave this morning. First time using the Sandalwood Red and the results were ok. Not great, but not terrible. It is a softer soap, but still took a while to load up even with a boar. The lather was just ok too, not thick, sort of foamy, but decently slick. Didn't effect the shave at all, however. Still got a great close shave with just one nick. The Captain's Choice Sandalwood is great--a very masculine sandalwood mixed with a cologne scent. Overall a nice shave and the slant smashed through the extra day of growth. Hope everyone on the East Coast is staying safe! Snow in Boston is not bad at all, but New York is a different story.
