Vintage French frameback from Thiers-Issard..."Rasoir Extra à lame rapportée fixe" ('Extra fixed-cutting insert shaver') i.e. replaceable blade.
Looks really scary. For some unknown reason I have no desire to try a straight razor. Don't trust myself or my fiance. Lol.
Shaving with SRs is not nearly as scary as it looks. However, if you view THIS THREAD, you'll probably never wish to even touch one....
Finding a vintage frame back in decent condition is the challenge. Many have damaged or overly-worn blades, or cracked/split scales. Finding one with the spare blade(s) is the ultimate rarity.
I have things coming from three different directions, but should all be hitting by early next week, all firsts for me: 100 Astra SP blades, my first bulk purchase The Astra's are coming with an Arko stick, my first Arko! Kent Infinity Silvertex brush, dipping my toes in synthetics 9-soap sampler from Soap Commander, from here in my home state (my first deliberate, artisan soap purchase)
+1 on the Astra SP's and the Arko. A good price from turkey. 4 tunes of Palmolive cream in a tube. This is the cream my father used. I'll give one each to my brothers and the other two are for me.
Things are going downhill fast - Within the last month I've gotten 2 MdC soaps, a Wilkinson "sticky" and two bottles of L'occitane edt's in the mail, and that pretty much cleared out my bank account. This weekend I discovered the Gallant & Klein 50% sale. "Okay, I'll spend more money to save some money" he thinks to himself. "While I'm at it, I'll just order these three Semogue ABB's from G&C" it continued. "WOW! What is this weird Semogue frankenbrush on eBay? Better order one"... So yeah. Soaps, croaps, brushes and blades. Pics coming within a week!
I ordered this 24mm white horse hair brush from Vigshaving from China. *this will be my first real horse hair brush
Tabac Shaving Soap MWF Shaving Soap And a bottle of the VEG Never tried anything on the list so I am excited for them to get here and see what all the fuss is about!
Picked up another small shaving lot for $15 that will be fun to check out when it gets here next week. It contains; - One NIB Merkur MII, - One Col Ichabod Conk "Pure bristle" shaving brush, and - One pewter scuttle made in Sheffield. I already have a couple of Merkur MIIs so I know I'll like that one and on the other side of the spectrum is the Col Ichabod Conk brush that is pretty much a toss-away. The thing that I'm most curious about is the pewter scuttle. Looks great I think.
