  1. Razor: Gillette Black Handle Flare Tip (P1) 1970 (Marriage year razor)
    Blade: Feather Hi Stainless (4)
    Brush: Fendrihen Silver Tip 22/49
    Soap: Route 66 Frozen Margarita
    A:S TSD 2x Commando Cocktail

Lots of good stuff here today. Flare Tip is a very good razor and although this Feather blade doesn't hold it's edge as well as other Feather blades I have it works very well for 3 or 4 shaves. The TSD 2x Commando Cocktail is an excellent after shave which provides a great finish. The Route 66 Frozen Margarita has a juicy note of Mexican lime and sea salt, light hints of plum, berries and apple over mid notes of rose and jasmine; anchored with earthy, freshly cut hay, topped with a dash of cooling menthol.

  12. Thanks Doug! That is a 99c resin bowl, used for serving salsa at Mexican restaurants. I place a tablespoon or so at a time into the bowl for better brush loading.

  13. January 25, 2016 SOTD

60-yo newbie’s intro to traditional shaving. (Week 37 AC*)

30-day focus with my Schick Type C1 - The Simplified Schick Automatic Razor.
I’ve been testing a variety of blades all month with this razor as I’d like to be comfortable using it as my travel razor.

    Shave 16

    Razor: Schick Type C1
Blade: NOS Schick Twin Injector 1973 (1)
    Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary

    IMG_3669.JPG

This will be the 6th and final blade type that I will try this month in the C1. I will attempt to give a final review at the end of the month (in the 30-Day Focus Thread) but all blades have performed very well in the trials.

The wider and thicker twin blade was not made for this razor. Fortunately the mechanism that holds the blade is not like the more common injectors in that it does not use a ‘key’ to load. So I manually loaded it. This blade also is wider so the exposure is different than other blades in this razor. But…

…another great shave. With a very light touch (no pressure) I got a clean and very close shave that is now four hours old and with the same ‘just shaved’ feeling.

    Cheers!
