    image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Hello peeps,
I went hunting this weekend and found these brushes and other shaving stuff at an antique store. I was tempted in buying some brushes, but since I have no clue about brushes , I passed. I took pictures to see if you guys recognize anything and can maybe give me som advice.

I don't know much about vintage brushes, but they look much better than anything I ever saw "out there".

The only ones that strikes me are the red & black one, if it's an Ever Ready, and the Made Rite with the box. There's a lot I don't know about brushes, however. Based on the price tags I see, they all seem to be overpriced. Now, if you can grab those California Raisins I see in the third picture...

Thank you gents. Yeah I have seen some rough brushes out there. But these some of these in really great , shave ready shape. I just wasn't sure if the pricing was right and if they are synthetic or badger or boar. I have no clue as I'm still ignorant to them.

2nd pic, and 2nd brush from right ($18) looks like the VDH brush you get with the deluxe set...the set comes with soap, a bowl, and a brush....I think its like $8

I'll try; I'll think of this as a pop quiz and my peers can check my work. I agree that they most all look ready to shave, although you never know whether hairs will start turning loose in a vintage brush that's been sitting dry. The only ones that look like badger to me are the the ones with sprinkling of color throughout the hairs (2 in the first shot, 2 in the second) as opposed to the distinct bands, but I don't know. The alleged Ever Ready, again, looks nice. And the next to last shot, looking down into the brush, may show some color. The rest, I would guess boar; I don't see any that look like vintage synthetics to me. Most of the handles look nice, but there's a lot of personal preference in that area. The ones that have what I call the VDH style handle (white, green, and blue in these pics) don't look like much to me. Price-wise, maybe you could get a deal on a couple of brushes bought together.

EDIT: I edited my post above to make a little more sense, and to reference the right pictures.

That place is a gold mine, think I saw some scuttles and mugs in there.

JR Reyes I scream for....chicken wings??

It's too bad that the one I like has a cracked handle...

I'm sure it is, but since I'm so new to this , I don't know what is good and what is just junk. I know a lot is "ymmv" and "it's worth whatever you want to pay for it" kind of thing, I just wish when I see something that is shaving related, that I know it's a good buy. I guess experience comes in handy.

The boxed made-rite is NOS. That would be a grab if it's under $20. Looks like a boar, collared (a thin band of hair around the outside of the brush) with badger.

On eBay, it would probably fetch between $20-30, or if a bidder was lucky, about $15.

Edit: none of those brushes are particularly desirable or valuable (i.e. vintage German or English makes or rare American brands). Most look to be modern (Van Der Hagen), or Ever-Ready and Made-Rite style brushes.

Thank you very much. That's sort of the input I was looking for. I was looking at the made-rite for awhile but I couldn't get the lady to that cabinet as the store was pretty busy. And since I didn't know much I decided to move on.

I would also jump on the NOS Made-Rite with the box if I didn't have to spend more than $20.00. Nothing else excites me.

I like the boxed MadeRite. The red & black one in the second picture is an EverReady 300PBT and could make a nice restore project. Also in the last two pictures it looks like there are 4-5 packs of NOS Gillette Stainless blades behind the mugs, I'd take a look at those as well. All depending on the price.

I think the upside-down red and white brush handle in the bottom right is a Fuller shave brush. This is based on its striking similarity to the Fuller that my grandfather had, which is in a case my mother displays.

The vintage brush makers were all copying each other so it may very well be a Fuller. To me it looks like a Ever-Ready C40.

Of all the brushes shown the NOS Made Rite is the one that catches my eye.

  19. I found these in the wild. The butterscotch one is a baton 7692 pure badger. I don't know what the black handle is other than badger. But I use it daily. It's very soft. Can anyone help me with what type of badger? Thanks [IMG][IMG][IMG]
