The two choices were not enough for me. I love the pictures, but I don't always read all the commentary. Sometimes I will just skip over if it is too long.

Speaking as a newbie. My shaving experiences that I have posted are with general products that most of you may have or had experienced already. I have proraso green soap and a trader joes soap. I have a sample of witch hazel my wife got. I have a trader joes balm and Nivea balm. I'm not in the same league as most of you. I have basic gear and products. As I read these posts on SOTD. Regardless of pictures, it gives me insight on the things most of you are using and your experience with the products. For me starting out, it allows me to see if those are products I wish to purchase. For instance, reading those daily diaries led me to purchase a tabac soap recently. I'm currently waiting on it to arrive. I've acquired several razors, red tip, 66 slim, tv special, and now I'm waiting on a gold tech. As far as I'm concern pics or no pics , I read more than I look. Because of your shave experiences im gaining knowledge. I assumed that's why the thread was created. "To each their own" I use to hear and I believe that.

Ok here's my take on this.

We r all shavers from all walks of life. Some with crazy collections some more toned down.

But the main purpose is beard reduction.

This isn't a competition. Not trying to outdo the next person.

But a community of friends and shavers passionate about their hobby.

I will read or look at pictures. To me as long as ur sharing ur shaves it's a worthy contribution to the thread.

Back in the day u needed one soap / aftershave / brush / razor and that was perfectly fine. In fact it's totally acceptable today.

As I stated before as long as ur shaving I'll read r posts or look at ur pictures. Without any hesitation cause we all make lather and we all shave. No matter what we r using.

I also know that some may not have a smartphone or camera to load pics onto their computers. And that's totally fine. In fact if I didn't have my phone I wouldn't post a daily pic.

I appreciate u all posting words / pics or both. Thank u all who contribute to my favorite thread on TSD.

Don't feel bad about your equipment or your pics. My pics tend to be simple and highlight my razors because I have very basic soaps (only 2 right now), brushes and aftershaves (Dollar General's best...LOL). We are who we are.

I find the SOTD threads both informative and entertaining. I check this thread every day to learn what others are using and hear opinions on shaving gear. I do enjoy the pictures, but that is not my main reason for checking in.

I am amazed at the photography skills that some of you possess, and have never let that stop me from posting my somewhat pedestrian pictures. I have in fact tried to bring the quality of my pics up. Having said that, I don’t have the time to take a picture every day. I do not let that stop me from posting, as it is SOTD not SPOTD (Shaving Photo of the Day). The OP might want to consider starting a SPOTD thread. I would absolutely look at the eye candy in that thread, along with the SOTD that I would hope would stay as it is.

I like the pictures for sure but I also like the descriptions of the products and the results. I sometimes wonder if the person posting actually shaves with the stuff eg. Soap still in the wrapper, no blade in the razor etc. Did you really shave with that stuff today or just take a picture of your gear.......

I used to zoom thru SOTD, but lately I take my time and read. If someone uses the same gear I own I like to see what they think about it. That lead me to reading more text only posts. For those on a 30 program the choices of arranging their same gear for multiple photos is somewhat limited. But they are improving their skill at the things involved. There are many gems of wisdom in what they share.

I often wonder that myself. As for me I actually do shave with the gear I take photos of that same day. Sometimes you will note my brush is dry because the pic was taken before the shave. When taken after often I'll have pulled out the blade to clean my razor and it was tossed. I use a fresh blade daily. :happy088:

I totally get what u mean.

I pick my shave the evening before as I shave in the am. I always photograph before bed and post the next day.

I always use what I photograph. Although there will b no blade and a totally dry brush.

Since I got an OldSpice mug, couple times I've whipped up lather and thought,
"I should take a photo with my brush and mug in a working state".
Then it all cools down, so I have to stir up another warm batch.
Not a huge waste, but I'll go back to finishing my shave before the photo.
It's My Shave, the photo can wait until I'm done.

Thank you, Mike I enjoy yours also and you always have such nice gear. One of my favorite things about people's SOTD'S is the massive amount of information I have and do learn from them. Also every shave decision and purchase that I have made has been directly or indirectly linked to the SOTD'S for me and you guys haven't let me down yet. Not one regrettable purchase. :)

I stay far away from the SOTD and 30 day focus threads. I read pretty much everything else on this forum. I fear enablement, and I'm OCD enough that it takes me a good half hour usually to stage a SOTD picture, then there's the prerequisite photo editing involved. Call it an hour or two of my day, basically wasted.

That's why you only see me do pics like this:
    or this:
Once every few months. I also rarely post them in the SOTD threads. I do wind up looking at those threads once in a while, when someone tags me in a post.

:signs011: Like Clint I tend to post pictures and list products in the SOTD thread. My posts in the 30 day focus thread will, for most shaves, also include written comments. I enjoy looking at the eye candy and reading the comments, but that's me. To quote the wise man above, to each his own. :)

If someone posts a pic, I enjoy the pic. If someone posts just text, I enjoy the text. If someone post a pic and text, I enjoy both. Always something new to learn.

If someone had told me a year ago they took pictures of their daily shaving gear...and posted them on line...and admired the pictures and text of other guys' daily shaving gear I would have told them they were nuts. And of course I was right. I am nuts...but I am in good company...and I am enjoying every minute of it. Thanks guys (and gals).:thanks::happy088: SOTD is a great thread!
