Uh ho.....did either one have a magazine similar to the repeaters inside? It might be the pre-1955 ones....I thought it was just the dispensers before they had the used blade vault... Do you think I should change that, to looking for the magazine from an old dispenser that will work in a repeater?
In short NO...The Magazine inside looked the same at first but its actually attached to the Dispenser..You have to destroy it to get it out & its totally different anyway..I pulled 2 of them down on the same day..Wasn't easy to open them up either... Billy..
Ahhh man....now I need to find out exactly which dispensers have those magazines in them....I would think the pre WWII ones would, because Schick was still making the repeaters til 1941...
I have Bad News there as well I am afraid because I pulled down one of those as well...No Cigar.. Billy..
Ha,ha,ha.....something tells me you must have been tearing these guys open looking for the samething......man..I would liked to have been a fly on the wall when you were doing this.....bet I could have learned a whole new vocabulary........
That explains why I've found about 8 different Schick patents for these dispensers....I know one of them by Rodrigues did have the same mag...it's in the drawing and says it's the same one from the repeaters....but who knows which is which.....And those are probably really rare I bet.... Actually that was a patent for the magazine itself, saying it would be used in the self-loading razor and in a separate dispenser.....But who knows if they actually did that or not or if they did....for how long.......hmmmm
Well I heard the same about the old magazines & just done it out of curiosity because I have the proper ones.. Billy..
That's correct about the different patents...I am not convinced though it would have been exactly the same though..Same principle Yeah but the magazines in the Repeater's are very fragile.. Billy..
Man, I'm glad I didn't swap those razors for the dispensers and then ripped into them and then discovered this.....There would be some singing sailor lyrics being sung at high volume......lol!!
After all this talk about Repeater Mags.....I just went and grabbed me a great BBS with my Schick Simplified Automatic Repeater.....Love that name....
A generous TSD member has gifted me a Schick Injector. I'm going to give it a try soon. I'll be sure to post my shave and comments here. Any suggestions for a successful shave? It looks like the handle angle should be more parallel to your face when compared to a DE safety razor? I'm looking forward to trying it!
Congrats. You will love the shave. My main advise is to very carefully load the blade. Making sure you do not drag the cutting edge across the stops. I find the Schicks are very easy to find the correct angle. Depending on model you want to use light pressure. The earlier models E you want a feather touch to start. You can adjust pressure from there. These are very light razors so i find a little pressure. I stress a little is ok. YMMV Best of luck Tom
Thanks! The first blade has already been loaded. You are right that the razor is very light. That will be a big difference from the heavier DE.
Don't know for sure, but I think G1. It has a cream colored plastic handle with gold razor top. Looks much like this: These blades too:
Those are great shavers. Be sure to use a light touch on that to start. You will live the shave. You will get good feedback on that one.
Congratulations....Can't wait for the stroke by stroke account....Just follow Tom's (@twhite ) great advice, you'll be better than fine...Great combination you have there....
Friday, January 29, 2016 Pre: Hot Shower, Sterling Pre-Shave Soap, Proraso Green Pre-Shave Soap: Mike’s Natural Barbershop Brush: Simpson Chubby 2 Synthetic Razor: The One Blade Blade: Gem Super Stainless #5 Post: Alum, Witch Hazel +Menthol, Whipped Shea Butter, CF Ghost Town Barber Today's shave was BBS in two passes +clean up. The 5th shave on this GEM blade was very smooth. The One Blade continues to impress me. Using short strokes, buffing and added pressure to my trouble spots I was able to get a very close and smooth shave, with zero burn from the alum. Finished with a generous splash of Chiseled Face Ghost town Barber. TGIF! Have a fabulous Friday folks.
Had a fantastic shave this morning. I am not sure if it was due to the excellent Schick Type O - or the fantastic vintage Twin blades that @Billyfergie 's cousin been selling. Either way it was a stellar shave. It was fun to return to injectors this morning...think I'll stay for a while.
