This has pretty much become my standard daily shave. No pre-shave oil, no alum, witch hazel or moisturizer afterward. Fantastic shaves daily.

Last (6th) day of cheapskate test.

    Razor : Gillette Tech
    Blade: Personna blue (6)
    Oil: Secret Shave
    Soap/Lather: Equate can
    AS: Nivea balm

As always, I shave 1 entire side at a time. Today 1st pass, across cheek to ear and back, WTG/ATG in that area, then ATG down to apple, with small strokes where needed. Do the same on the other side. The 2nd pass, this time I used a little thicker lather instead of the thin layer I normally use, seemed to work a little better( the blade seemed smoother).... you learn something new every day. Then, clean - up time. which was so minor, it was almost unnecessary, but with it I came out with a true BBS.

Now for the final observations: I performed 5 successful shaves with Lady J @ 4.9 cents per day (counting blade cost only). I performed 6 successful shaves with the Gillette tech @ 2.33 cents per day ( blade only). The only deviation in the process was the AS and the thicker lather on 2nd pass this morning. Hope my standards were fair. I used Ted Pellas injectors and Personna blues. Of course the outcome will be different with each combination of blade and razor, that`s a given. My point being, is that with the less expensive tools and preps, one can achieve a decent to great shave. I have noticed the de shaves were smoother and lasted through the day longer, but the injectors are so much easier the navigate with fewer ouches, and in the end.... whatever floats your boat. SHAVE OF THE DAY
    20160130_123627.jpg

    Prep: Musgo Real classic
    Razor: Gillette ball end tech
    Blade: Super-Max titanium
    Brush: RazoRock plissoft
    Soap: RazoRock Moroccan secret
Aftershave: Chiseled Face Orange Cream sickle

    Balm: Myrsol Emulsion

2 pass shave this morning and nice and smooth. These blades seem to get better with age, I lost track of the number of shaves, but it is much smoother than at first. Speaking of first, this was my first time with this soap.the scent is very light, lemon or some kind of citrus is what I pick up, but the scent is quite nice for being on the light side. It may be the argon oil in the soap, but the lather was super slick. Hope everyone has a great shave!

Prep: Hot Shower/ Nivea Sensitive Face Wash
    Pre-Shave: Bloom water
    Soap: Soap Commander Respect
    Brush: Omega Boar
Razor/ Blade: Merkur 37c slant/ CVS Personna Platinum
    Astringent: Alum
    Post-Shave: Soap Commander Integrity Balm
    Aftershave: Aqua Velva
Traveling and this is my set-up for the past few days. I brought SC Respect because the soap is great and wouldn't be affected by the hard water of Chicago, since it is vegan. I chose to bring the Respect scent because I really didn't like it at first and wanted to see if I used it consistently for a few days if it would open up or grow on me. It did. It has a sort of synthetic lime scent, but it did open up and I really enjoy it. Definitely will use it a lot in the spring and summer. I brought the 37c because I just wanted to get a great feel for it and I truly love the razor. Super smooth and gives me some of my closest shaves. It is mild enough that I can use it every day without irritation. Everything worked great. I will be back in Boston Sunday night and will be back to using my regular stuff. I also make a quick stop at the Q-Brothers shaving store in Chicago. Fantastic selection and I picked up some cool stuff. Have a great weekend!

VDH Deluxe soap, bowl, & brush
Gillette 1954 Z3, new Feather blade
Barber Shop Aid® Fresh Cool Breeze
    RazoRock AfterShave Wax

Dancing with the one who brung me, I revisited VanDerHagen's Deluxe kit. I still like the bowl for shape and colors. It could use some texture to promote lather building. The soap gives me an acceptable shave, even compared to more expensive brands. Unfortunate that the brush sheds a couple bristles every use. One day I'll replace the knot, but the handle still works!
The AS delivers a great burn, and a pleasant tangerine and guava scent. I like to follow many AS's with the AS Wax by RazoRock.
The razor is one I purchased from the Mayor of a nearby town. Same antique store and stall where I found my '59 FatBoy. Can't beat a $5.00 razor, twice. Is this referred to as a "Tech"?

image.jpeg Vintage 'The Weekender' shaving kit from the 1920s. Very very deco chrome and black brush with a Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End NDC razor, shaving brush and tubular container stored inside the top. Has mirror on the inside of the lid. Comes with a tan genuine leather case. Marked Metalfield Inc. N.Y. City. Pat. Ap For. Made in USA and The Weekender. Inside flaps on case marked 'The Weekender' and 'Metalfield'.
Cream: The Body Shop Maca Root cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black Balm, Old Spice original Shulton 1956 glass AS Stopper #3

The Meca Root whipped up nicely with the small brush. The Gillette Old OC is a nice razor, but it is rather aggressive with my blade of choice, the Feather. I just have to be careful with this light razor, and use no pressure. Very nice two pass shave with some touchup. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some JB Balm. Finished with some vintage Old Spice original Shulton from 1956. Nice vintage shave. Y'all have a good one!
