This 1956 Gillette Superspeed is one of the smoothest shaves I've experienced. Aces!

image.jpeg HRazor: Gillette 85 Super Adjustable "Black Beauty” (p2) 1970 named “The Black Pearl”
Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue
    Cream: TOBS Grapefruit cream
    Blade: Feather (2)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera, Jack Black balm, Armani Mania cologne

Whipped up the TOBS in a minute with the Badger. Nice slick cushion and I really like the scent. The heavy head on the "Pearl" gave me a nice smooth shave with no pressure with a Feather blade set on 5, WTG and XTG on my face and neck. Then ATG set on 3. Very smooth. The Thayers Cucumber Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera felt good on my face and that natural scent was nice and fresh. After cleanup, I smoothed on some Jack Black, and then some Armani Mania cologne. Y'all have a good one

Going away shave: leaving town for several weeks so wanted to use some favorites. Everything went as expected until the knot dropped out of the Romera! There doesn't appear to be any damage. I'll figure out the best way to secure it when I return. By the way it performed beautifully and didn't fail until I was rinsing it. Also tried the UFO Titan with the Wolfman OC head... awesome. The Barrister and Mann Le Grand Chypre was as always fantastic, and seemed even slicker than previous lathers, perhaps due to the wonderful Romera knot. Finished with Roger & Gallet L'Homme EdT

    February Focus - German blades

    February 1

    Razor - Merkur 23c
    Blade - [IMG] (1)
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Soap - Arko stick
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, Aqua Velva Musk

And so it begins. The second month of 2016 and I dispatched the cartel boys to Germany to find some blades to try out. Now, sending Igor, Ivan, Boris, Yuri and the rest of the clowns boys to a country famous for making and consuming mass quanities of beer is almost as stupid as sending them home to Russia where the vodka runs like rivers in the streets. They did send me a picture of them doing research on blades, though, which made me feel......well.......anyway.......

Once they regained consciousness they did manage to send me some authentic German steel to try out in my authentic Merkur 23c razor that I normally reserve for head shaves. Couldn't let a German razor go to waste with German blades around though.

Today's selection is the Timor blade, manufactured by Feintechnik GmbH, home of the Croma brand. Their website includes some basic information, mentions they have been making blades since 1920, and also features lots of pictures and links to their cart systems. Of course. We don't care about stinking carts though, we have legitimate DE steel to use. The blade is branded with the Solingen name as well, though the company is located in the Thuringia region (for those of you who just love love love geography).

I chose to start the month with Arko stick and the Wolf Whiskers for a fantastic face lather and went to work. I must say, if all the blades this month feel like this one I will have a very good month indeed. Not only is it sharp but it is smooth. The first pass was highly effective and incredibly comfortable and when I followed with the XTG on the second pass I was essentially done. I'm talking BBS in two passes. Well, maybe I have to call it a near BBS as there was one spot on my neck that needed a touchup. But that was it. Unbelievably smooth and two passes and a touch up to BBS. I'll take that all day everyday. However, some sharp blades can leave behind irritation to deal with so I have to wait for the alum to make the final call. Cold rinse felt good, and the alum....quiet as a kitten taking a nap on a soft carpet. Seriously a fantastic shave to start the month.

In order to rate each blade I'm using the "stein-o-meter" method. A rating from 0 to 5 German beer steins. Day one of the Timor gets the top rating! Enjoy your Monday!

This razor is REALLY light compared to the Executive I have been using. I am so used to the weight of the Executive basically doing all the work for me. Began my usual pass and had a little trouble finding the sweet spot of the angle. May have also been fighting the need to put pressure on the razor. Got a little irritation on the first pass but I think by the time I had finished I had the angle pretty well figured out. Second pass went really smoothly, no irritation at all and the feedback from the razor was much better than during the first pass. I was able to replicate the angle for the entirety of the second pass, and reminded myself of the no pressure rule a few times. A little touch up in the usual places. I ended the day with a DFS shave and minor irritation that really only lit up on my chin and around the Adam's apple, my two main trouble spots.
