I have been using Astra sp but just changed to the personna 2 days ago . Sunday's shave was the smoothest I've had yet, but I wasn't sure if it was the blade or the gold tech razor as both were first time use on Sunday. I shave yesterday but with my 66 slim and an Astra sp blade and irritated my skin as I upped the dial to 8. I'm wondering if today's irritation is a continued affect from yesterday. I'm going to skip tomorrow to let my skin heal a little.

Going from a tech razor to a slim set to an 8 sounds like the culprit to me.

A nice surprise showed up in my mailbox yesterday. A wrapped, and encased in a specially made blade box, NOS Rolls Razor blade. Thank you, @Hodge. :happy036: This gave me the perfect opportunity to finally shave with the Rolls Razor I bought at the end of last year.

Nice shave - and I felt good about a great result with no bleeding as this was my first time with a hollow ground blade. Now I have to get serious about getting some lapping film and learning how to hone properly. Full shave report here.

    Have a great day!
9th consecutive shave with this set up. I enjoy the FB set to 5. Same great shave, same BBS results, without the extreme blade exposure. The Solingen Souplex is keeping its edge and I will use it for a final shave tomorrow.
I think the AS fairy is sneaking into my apartment and replacing the Floïd that I used that morning. The level drops at a snail's pace.
At this rate (and with 4 full bottles in reserve) I probably have enough of this product to last until the next appearance of Haley's Comet. (I have already added these extra bottles to my last will and testament) ;)

    February Focus - German blades

    February 1

    Razor - Merkur 23c
    Blade - [IMG](2)
    Brush - BoS Omega 10066
    Soap - Tabac
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, Aqua Velva Ice Blue

Second day of the Timor as we work our way through the German countryside of blades. I chose the BoS and Tabac for lather today. Tabac has become SWMBO's favorite of my soaps based on the scent. I may have to invest in the after shave and other Tabac products. She also likes MWF, but not as much as Tabac. I started lathering up and she walked by the closed door and stuck her head in to comment on how great it smelled and how sexy. So, a good choice. The lather wasn't quite as rich as I wanted it but I added a bit of water and got it to an acceptable texture. I seem to have to work Tabac a bit more than The Fat to get the right lather. But, it's a fantastic soap and puts the other half in a good mood so I can't complain at all!

The Timor blade felt the same today as yesterday. Incredibly sharp and smooth, though it took a bit more effort to get to the final result. I also didn't get quite to BBS, ending on a high DFS after two passes and some extra touch up work. The question in my mind is how much difference the lather from the Arko made in yesterday's result. As usual, the face lathered Arko made a sinkful of lather that was slick and cushiony. The Tabac lather was less rich even when I adjusted it today. Another note in my experiment book to try these two soaps on identical new blades to remove the second shave variable. And, I want to work Tabac a bit more to see if I can produce a better lather than normal.

DFS after 2.5 still qualifies for a great shave and the first German is proving its worth. I can't give it a perfect score today, mostly because it set such a high standard yesterday, but 4.5 steins seems reasonable.

Prep - Woods Of Windsor Cedar Woods soap / Pre-lather / 3 min steam
    Razor - Gillette Slim Adjustable
    Blade - Rapira Swedish Supersteel
    Brush - Omega 20106
    Soap - D.R. Harris Sandlewood
After - Frozen towel / Alum & WH Mix
    Result - BBS++

It's all about firsts for me this evening. I broke a golden rule though, changing more than one variable at a time. The trouble is, I'd wanted to try the soap and blades for so long and it just so happened that they came to me at the same time.
The blade was everything I'd read, smooth and sharp, very different to how I found its stablemate, the Super Stainless - I really didn't like those at all.
The soap was a first on two counts, maker and scent. If this is Sandlewood, then bring it on! It's everything I look for in a soap, lovely thick marshmallow with loads of cushion and glide. I love it! The post shave feel is fantastic!
Razor wise, I'll probably stick with the Slim throughout February, as I did with the Tech and Clog Pruf through December and January respectively. I think I've learned a lot by doing this.
The result? Put simply, it's the best shave I've ever had this razor, one of the best shaves ever.

I find that when I hit a trouble spot in my shaving, keeping to a known set up works well. If you got a good shave from the tech and Astra, maybe you could stick with that for a while you work on your lathering. Then you eliminate the variability of the razor and blade combo. It helps me out from time to time.

Third day with the DOC. A full comparison will be forthcoming later today. I had a very good shave today. In my opinion this a very good razor with moderate aggressiveness. It glides over got face and gives a BBS shave without any difficulty.

Sorry for the delay...photobucket was down for maintenance earlier today.
Prep: Hot Shower/ Nivea Sensitive Face Wash
    Pre-Shave: Proraso White cream
    Soap: Catie's Bubbles LMR
    Brush: VieLong Badger/ Horse Mixed
    Razor/ Blade: Merkur 1906/ Voskhod (2)
    Astringent: Witch Hazel
    Post-Shave: Nivea Cooling Sensitive Balm
    Aftershave: Captain's Choice North

Very warm day today in Boston so used something that reminded me of SoCal beaches. LMR is a great scent. The lather was built quickly and slickeness was great. Post shave was pretty good too. First time using the Vie Long Horse hair and Badger mix and it worked great. Still had the animal scent, but the tips were very soft, but the horse hair gave it some great backbone. A little scritchy, but overall not too bad and I'm sure it will get softer with more shaves. It built a great lather very fast. This is definitely a unique brush. Overall the shave was great!

    Hello Gentlemen, this morning's :

    - LPL Ginger & Lemongrass Soap
    - "Dalton" brush from a French wood turner
    - Le Grelot "Perle des Orients" straight
    - Spadson Made in France DE
    - LPL Ginger & Lemongrass AS

This Spadson sure is curious, one side is too smooth, the other is too agressive... Hence multiple blood spots. But it's funny looking, so I'll keep it. :D

    Bonne soirée !
