Day 33 - 90 Day Intro to SR SOTD - 2 February 2016 Ralf Aust 5/8 L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Route 66 - Lumberjack Alum TSD ISZ AS Splash Pinaud Lilac Vegetal Day 33 was an impromptu study in lather. Route 66 hangs with Arko in the lather arena, and crushes the Turkish Giant in post shave feel. I definitely needed some moisturizer after an Arko SR session. Anyhow, tried to replicate the stroke pattern from yesterday, and had decent results. The stropping must be going ok, the razors are staying sharp and smooth for now. I missed a bit on the right jaw to prevent BBS, and tried Adam' advice on short strokes on the chin, and had a pretty good shave after two precise passes. Called it good, Alum was better, ISZ was ISZ , and the Veg is still for the heroes. Chalk another up for the good guys! Had the pleasure, sincerely, of shoveling a foot of new snow today. It's my favorite winter activity besides overeating. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a wonderful Wednesday!
LPL Savon du Barbier Omega Pro #98 boar Gillette SS '47 & '54 Pinaud Clubman S.R. Second day of evaluating a pair of Gillette Super Speeds. I used the same Voskhod blade from yesterday. The opinion seems to be that these are near as sharp as my favorite Feathers. Swapped sides using the '54 in my left hand, & got the better shave on my right. The '47 is a smother shave, both closer and less irritation. My favorite French soap by Le Pere Lucien paired with Special Reserve AS Cologne for a smooth DFS on both sides! (Thanks to @Red Rider for inspiring the comparison experiment)
WEDNESDAY Planned Shave for the early Morning A near-repeat of Tuesday's shave with this fine J-WEST FON razor. Stirling soap (with added glycerin) and a Fine 'Platinum' aftershave finish. Have a Happy Hump Day, all!
Good morning TSD - my shave today: Did not have much time for posting yesterday - but I had a very nice shave with my new Canadian Tech. So today the second new razor was used. The La Toja soap lathered easily as usual and provided great slickness and blade protection. The Red Tip is a very well made razor with nice weight, good balance, comfortable grip and handle length. To my surprise it shaved pretty similar to the Pre War Tech - a pleasant combination of mild and relatively effective shave. Both razors were much more "agressive" than the Parker 87R I used before. Two passes plus some touchup resulted in an almost BBS shave (missed one spot at my jawline and another one on the neck). Hardly any burning sensation from the Aftershave. In terms of effectiveness and longevity neither the Tech nor the Red Tip come close to the Merkur Adjustables I used last month, but since I shave almost every day, that's not a big issue to me. I'll use the Tech again tomorrow for comparison, but with a different, heavier handle. Have a great day!

Tabacstag This shave started out rough - I got a couple weepers on the first pass, so I tossed the Astra SP and switched to Voskhod for an easier finish. Shuyak Island matches nicely with Tabac, and the cool was more than welcome. My neck is a little tender from yesterday, so I took it easy there. I used more PSO than yesterday, but did not feel any difference. Prep: Van Yulay PSO Soap: Tabac! Brush: HIS Razor: der Futur Blade: Astra SP (2), Voskhod (1) AS: Van Yulay Shuyak Island EdC: Versace Pour Homme

My God, what a shave from the Krampert's Frostbite soap. A few swirls of my big Turkish barbershop brush gave me a huge amount of rich lather with its famous freeze and a terrific post-shave feeling. The matching aftershave froze me even more and left my skin feeling so calm as well as smooth!
