    My First Mastro Livi

This is my very first Mastro Livi, the one which introduced me into high quality of shaving and made by this incredible Italian craftsman. I bought this razor in April 2013 and, as of today, it never needed any honing, not even a pass on any paste. It shaves like the first time and it amazes me more and more. I have always followed Mastro Livi's wise advises on how to maintain a straight razor, that is his loom strop and hand palm, and it works. This razor is made of Damasteel Blue Tongue pattern - as far as I know, a discontinued pattern - and scales are made of cobalt buckeye burl, a color not available anymore. These two factors make this razor even more special, not to mention the fact it still gives a super smooth and velvety shave, close and impeccable, even though three years have passed since the day I bought it and never honed or refreshed its edge. Simply amazing!
    • Pre-Shave: RazorGuy Pre-Shave Oil
    • Soap: Cella Shaving Cream
    • Brush: Omega Bristle Brush 48
    • Strop: Mastro Livi Travel Loom Strop and Hand Palm
    • Razor: Mastro Livi Damasteel Blue Tongue, 7/8 Full Hollow, Livi Snake Point
    • Post-Shave: Alum Block
    • Post-Shave: Argan Oil
    • After Shave: L'Erbolario Vetiver Hamamelis Aftershave Lotion

    Hot shower
    Proraso Preshave
    Barbasol Arctic Chill
Gillette Blue Tip w/Gillette Silver Blue (1)
    W, X1, X2, touch ups
Cold rinse, cold towel, witch hazel, Nivea Sensitive Cooling Post Shave Balm, Barbasol AS Brisk

After yesterday's fiasco (2+ dozen weepers with the Blue Tip/Silver Blue combo), I thought my problem might be the lather. So I went with a can. Only 8 weepers, but that's still too many, and the shave wasn't close at all. Many of you know this is an everyday issue for me, regardless of razor, blade, and soap/cream. I may have to admit the DEs don't work for me and content myself with being a collector.

This is the first time that I am reading about your fairly consistent issue with weepers. (Perhaps I have not been paying close enough attention). As you are also clearly not a newbie to wet shaving, you will forgive me if I ask what may seem to be questions geared towards newbs, because, unless you got weepers all the time before DE's, this is not normal. What razors did you use prior to DE's? What kind of results were you getting? Do you really think Barbasol is really giving your face enough protection? Have you tried "smoother" blades? (IMO Polsiver SI and Personna Med Preps are very smooth) I hesitate to ask you about using too much pressure as it sounds insulting vis-a-vis your experience, but...?
Maybe it's time for you to try the most forgiving razor out there: The Feather AS-D2? (now available at very reasonable prices). I hope 2016 becomes the year that your weeper issue is solved.

I'm sorry to hear about your challenges. There are many folks here who could offer much better advice that I can. But it's certainly frustrating for you to receive consistent nicks and weepers. I hope the TSD community can all chip in and get it figured out!

A nice Schick G4 shave, and as usual, a near BBS, with Ted Pellas (5) and the usual prep. But I want to talk about this wooden bowl I got at an antique shop. It seems to be bare (untreated) wood, so, being totally ignorant of what is required to prepare it for lathering, i`m asking if you just put soap/cream in the bowl and start stirring with a damp brush, or do i need to rub in some kind of oil, or soak with plain water, or what? Prep: Hot Shower/ Dove Men's Face Scrub
    Pre-Shave: PAA Ice
    Soap: RR Don Marco
    Brush: Semogue 1460 Boar
Razor/ Blade: Muhle R89 Rose Gold/ Personna Platinum Red
    Astringent: Witch Hazel
    Post-Shave: Eco Pure Man Balm
    Aftershave: Fine L'Orange Noir
Awesome shave. The Don Marco scent is fantastic for warmer weather--sweet and citrusy. Smelled amazing throughout the whole shave and paired nicely with the L'Orange Noir. Had a very nice shave with the rose gold today. The Eco Pure Man balm was a gift to me. Never heard of it but it is really good stuff. Almost to the weekend boys!

Regarding your bowl: It depends. If you don't get any "bleeding" of the stain from the bowl, you're good to go. I had a bowl that wasn't sealed well and the stain leeched out into my soap. (I now use the bowl to hold errant screws and nails) :)
