I have some Jabonman artisan shaving soaps on order. I heard it's fantastic, and I'm excited. Oh, shoot, wrong thread.
I ordered some Tabac today from that Perfumania clearance. It's always kind of been on my "to try" list, but the scent descriptions make me nervous, and it isn't cheap enough for WTH purchase. But at nine dollars shipped for a puck in a bowl, I just had to go for it. I figured I can give it a sniff, and if it isn't for me I can PIF it.
I believe you will like the performance of this soap. There has been pros and cons over the years concerning the scent. I like Tabac's scent and especially the performance. I am able to put this soap on the "If you could have only one" list. Good stuff.
A month with no new soaps and this is a record for me. As a matter of fact, I have a couple I am considering disposing. This is a good feeling for me in the soap arena.
one month is in the books, and i'm still in ... !!! HOWEVER ... and yes, that's a big however ... i realized a couple of weeks ago that i'm down to two or three shaves worth of proraso sandalwood. i made some hints to family at Christmastime (for either tobs or proraso), but nobody bit. i just didn't do an inventory before the end of the year. ahhhhh, no sandalwood!!! if i only used one soap, it would be fine to get some more. but ... i have so many soaps. so, keeping with the spirit of the NB2016, i shall hold off. the countdown begins ... (or perhaps a trade is in order ...)
First big challenge is not buying a brush from the current group buy. They look like they're going to be fantastic.
There is a guy on a FB BST group that has literally thousands of straight razors. I got nine of them in December, which is part of what prompted my wife's "encouragement" for me to not buy any shave gear in 2016. Every time he posts pictures of the group he is selling I want them. He had a NOS Case SR that was awesome. Fortunately someone snapped it up before I checked my Paypal balance. I need to focus on the 14 non shave ready straights I have, rather than trying to get more.
Yep. Restraint rule number 1 is we don't talk about...wait, no, different club. Restraint rule number 1 is stop looking.
Yep...I stopped looking at the soap adds and Googling the new soaps mentioned here. Going to do a nice Tabac shave today.
I'm guilty of still looking, but my stash hasn't dwindled at all yet, so I'm not yet tempted. I'm not sure what happened in the past year, but my soaps seem to be regenerative. Not sure if it's just technique change, or maybe the brush type, but my soaps seem to be taking about twice as long to go through lately. I'm using about 2.5 oz of MWF that I got as a "sample" from a member of another forum for Fat February. I assumed it would only last me a couple of weeks, but after 3 shaves, I'm not sure I've actually used up any.
The very hard pucks of Tabac and MWF will last what seems like a life time. A little goes a long way and they seem to never lose any scent or lather making ability. These are my two favorite "hard" soaps. Face lathering these soaps with a good, stiff boar is shaving heaven.
I have been trying to get through my puck of MWF while I am out of town. This stuff will last for ever!
its only Feb. feels a lot longer than that but i have to say, i am enjoying getting real intimate with the equipment i have and i am getting much better results and that is reinforcing the NB.
Well, I put a bid on a type of straight razor from my favorite brand that I didn't think I would ever see as a complete set. I will know if I am still in NB in four or five days.
I'm out. I just clicked "complete purchase" on some Proraso Blue and 50 Gillette Silver Blue blades. After I hang my head in shame for 10 minutes I can enjoy tracking the package as it finds its way into my open arms. Still...I don't plan to go hog wild with purchases...I have a sock drawer full of soaps to keep me going for a while yet...
