    February Focus - German blades

    February 6

    Razor - Merkur 23c
    Blade - [IMG] (3)
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
    Soap - Arko Stick
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, Nivea, The Veg

Third and final day of the Elios. The wolf and Arko for the lather and as always it whipped right up into a fantastic lather. Should be a great surface to work on for this blade to try and redeem itself a bit. I hasn't been horrible, just not great. Two nicks on day one, none on day two but just not as effective and comfortable as I'd like.

First pass today was WTG as always and again, not too bad but just, ehhhh......average. No real pulling but I could tell it wasn't quite as good as either day before. The XTG on the second pass failed to produce a DFS and it took a third pass to get there again, plus some extra work along the G-slide areas. I was really hoping for a two pass DFS but not even close. Alum was again a bit warmer than I'd expect so there's that.

This blade is simply not impressive. But, it isn't a total bust either. Average would be a good word for it. Now, for the price. Best price I can find at the moment is a 10 pack for $5.78 shipped. That's nearly $0.60 per blade and that's Feather territory. This blade is no Feather so I wouldn't consider adding any to my stash for the price alone. Final rating is three steins. Average, as I said. Tomorrow, the Wilkinson Sword.

    Good Evening, here's a look at tonight's SOTD;

    1930's Gillette New SC.
    Polsilver Super Iridium blade.
    Chinese Badger hair brush.
    King Louis Lavender shaving soap.
    King Louis Lavender as splash.
    Avon Mesmerize cologne.

I hadn't used this razor in a while, so I decided to give it a whirl. The end result was a wonderful two pass DFS. I would have went for another pass, but my back hurt too much. Tomorrow's another day. Here's the photo. -

Took the Vintage Williams for another spin. Not the same great experience as yesterday, but I used a boar rather than a badger brush. Also tried it with my Whipped Dog instead of a DE. Too many differences to expect the same performance. Learn & live! At least the Pinaud After Shave delivered.

    Good morning from Germany,

    just endet a great shave:

Meißner Tremonia Himalayan Heights / Shavemac 23397 / GEM Micromatic OC / GEM Stainless (5) / Meißner Tremonia Himalayan Heights Aftershave (Sample)

Great, great, great. The Himalayan Heights has such a wonderful scent to me. Wow!!! In combination with the matching AS this was like a dream. The razor is a loan from a friendly member in our german forum who is member here too. Thank you @Marverel

It´s maybe a bit too aggressive for me, because i prefer the more gentle razors. But nevertheless it´s a really great razor.

That´s it for now Friends. Have a great time, take care and have a great, joyful shave.

    Greetings
    Thorsten

Sunday's shave and the fourth consecutive with the newly acquired Merkur Futur. This razor is quite aggressive but equally smooth - I have used it with four different soaps now and it always delivers. Today was my first ever experience with Calani, in the form of Tulach Ard. Performance is top, could have added more water as the lather was quite firm. But it lathers up incredibly easy. Scent is sub-par; it's like an everyday bar of hand soap (perhaps the one you put in the guest bathroom, though). I'd continue using it thanks to lather quality and post shave feel.

Hey Thorsten - thank you for lending me the Mongoose ;)
I think we're on the same page with the OC ... a bit too much "bite" for my taste, I prefer the Bullet Tip. Great picture btw.

Had my second shave with your Mongoose today:

    0702sotd.jpg

    - PannaCrema Namaste
    - Semogue OC
    - Mongoose
    - Feather Pro Guard (#2)
    - Body Shop White Musk ASB

PannaCrema is a fantastic soap. Lathers easily, very slick, incredible post-shave feel. I don't care that much for the scent of the Namaste (got it as part of a trade), but it's such a great performer that I learned to live with it.

The shave today was better than yesterday's, but still not as close as I would have liked. Almost BBS, but not quite. The usual passes WTG and X/ATG, some touchup work - very smooth and irritation-free. The White Musk ASB smells wonderful, the skincare seems to be very good as well - I like it!

Well - this is a borrowed razor and I don't have any other blades, so I have to get along with this one, I guess ;) Anyways, it's great having the chance to try out this razor, so thanks again @ChiefShaver
