So I grew up in a, “We don't do that. That's not us. That's for other people.” sort of family. To my chagrin, it's probably something I've unintentionally passed on to my own kids. But as I've gotten older – the last decade or so, I've been forcing myself to get past that which is ingrained in me. I bought a motorcycle again – that's not for me – that's for other guys. I went to Sturgis – that's not for me – that's for other guys. I went marlin fishing – that's not for me – that's for other guys. Now I'm going to the Broncos Super Bowl victory parade. I haven't (yet) made a bucket list, but this is certainly one of those, “That's not for us.” things . I'm excited and looking forward to it!

Oh and for all those celebrating Mardi Gras in my favorite city today, well...

@BigCabDaddy Then there's Mardi Gras parades... I live on the west end of Louisianan. We have a different kind of parade here. Less tourist drunks in the streets. Less shootings, too.
I may attend the big parade tonight. Much more fun when children are along. Not so entertaining if solo.
When my four children were getting up into those difficult teen years I instructed them to begin a list."Thing I'm going to do when I turn 18 and move out on my own." Defuse the conflict situations by saying they could. but not until they were self supporting adults. They had all been told to get a burger flipping job and save money. a hundred bucks would buy a bus ticket to any where in the lower 48. When they arrived buy a newspaper, find a job, enjoy life. One now lives in Australia, another in South Korea. Guess we ought be careful what we tell our kids.

I guess I grew up in a similar fashion (not complaining). It was a very different time. So go for it. None of us are getting any younger - some of us more so than other's.

Why be jealous? If you want to do something fun and cool, then go for it. Limited budget? Then do your homework and figure out an affordable way to do whatever it is. That way you not only save money, you also learn a lot. If anyone tells you you can't, you can.

I once heard it said that it is better to have experiences than things, and found it to be pretty much true. It is better to have a safety razor, a good travel brush and a shave stick while travelling from Kerala to Kashmir than to have a mountain of stuff sitting around at home, at least I think so.
