You may take to it better and not have problems. I had some success early on which made it more frustrating when I was struggling later on. Best of luck
February 9, 2016 February Focus on my Schick Type D - The first Schick Injector Razor circa 1935 Shave 5/6 Hot Shower Razor: Schick Type D Blade: Schick Plus Platinum (1 & 2) Soap: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary Brush: Rubberset 400-4 Witch Hazel: Thayers AS: Saponificio Varesino 70th Anniversary Shifted to a new blade type after 4 excellent shaves with the Schick (China) blade. 2-day growth, 2-pass shave (XTG,ATG) Monday's shave was a good one-pass shave, but this morning I noticed a bit more stubble and went to a 2-pass. I really worked at deliberate, smooth and focused strokes. Great results - real good reduction on first pass and very close second with hardly any second strokes and no irritation. Also, a great combo of soap and brush using a puck rub on the face and a face lather with a well-dampened brush providing a very thick, slick lather. On the road again today and a travel shave tomorrow. Cheers! RT
I am three shaves in with the Gillette 7 o'clock yellow blade and already I notice the blade is smoother than the green. First shave had the usual "first-shave edge" but the second and third shave has been milder...but still very sharp. Will update again after the 7th shave!
This sounds awfully familiar! I remember having a few good days in a row and thinking that things were going great, only to be reminded by the razor and blade that I still really needed to pay attention to what I was doing and concentrate on technique because I was still a long way from where I needed to be. To have it go otherwise, I would think, is the exception and not the rule.
SOTD February 10, 2016 Focus day 10 Prep: Warm shower Blade: Wilkinson Sword (2) Razor: Maggard MR1 Brush: Satin Tip 'The Purest' synthetic Lather: Proraso Red Post: Witch hazel splash, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up Another efficient CCS with this combination of goods. The Proraso Red seems to have more slickness than the White and Green, at least to me. The scent also lingers much longer than the other varieties. I have really enjoyed the Maggard MR1 CC razor. It just works. I'm interested to try the open comb in a few days and see how it compares. That will be my first open comb experience. The Wilkinson Sword blade is pretty sharp and did well again today. This combo worked well - nothing to complain about! Hope you all have a great Wednesday
Feb 10 Focus Shave 7 Today's razor is Jerry Stark 5/8 touched up on a J Nat followed by Dovo red/black paste. The razor felt smooth but not very sharp, just sharp. Four passes and just one weeper. I thought given the smoothness of the edge the shave would be irritation free but the alum gave just a small amount of feedback. I was surprised I did not get BBS, just a solid DFS. I think it may be safe to say I have the Fat dialed in... And yes that is my fat handled tech...the lighting just makes it look a little different...I am sticking to my focus guys....I am solid as a rock...totally not my R41....
Day 5. (From yesterday evening.) Each shave is getting worse...not as close, more weepers, more irritation. Maybe I'm getting too comfortable and slacking on technique.
Sorry to hear that. I really do like to get back to basics when I go through patches of bad shaves. I find sticking to a consistent set up and really focusing on keeping a shallow angle seems to help. Keep posting some details on here as these guys have helped me out a ton.
Straights Focus February 10: Stirling Synthetic Brush Chiseled Face Sherlock Johan Engstrom Stirling Unscented PSB Tabac AS I have decided this razor likes a very shallow angle. After my first pass, I still had a some roughness in center field, so I lathered up that area again and did another pass. I ended with a DFS with a slight sting of the alum. I almost felt I was cheating with the lather today. The Chiseled Face just exploded with great, slick lather. The Sherlock scent is great, too.
02/10/2016 AlumiGoose with Triad SS Feather Pro (3) Rubberset 400 with Omega 49 Boar Soap Commander Passion Witch Hazel Fine Platinum Whipped Shea Butter A automatic near BBS 2 pass shave this morning while being smooth and efficient. Perhaps not quite as close as the Mongoose?FEather Super Pro combo but almost. The big boar lathered the SC Passion with ease. Finished with a splash of Fine Platinum. I hope everyone has a great Wednesday.
