    Menthol Monday!

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: Personna lab blue (3)
Razor: Vintage Gillette Slim on setting 5 (on pass-around from @youngunn)
    Brush: Trader Joe's synthetic
    Lather: Proraso Green shaving soap
Post: Witch hazel splash, TSD SubZero splash, Soap Commander Integrity balm with menthol
    WTG, touch-up

Well, I had my personal version of a @crackstar experience today! It was personal in that it's not the menthol level of some of the TSD members, but it was pretty cold for me!

First off I used the vintage Slim on generous loan from @youngunn. I will be sending this razor on to its new owner tomorrow and I've enjoyed using it the past few days. I tried a setting of 5 today and liked it. I started with 3, then advanced to 4, and chose 5 for today. The Personna blade worked well with the Slim (it works well for me in whatever razor).

I started with face lathering the Proraso Green soap after loading a ton of lather into the synthetic brush. The lather was nice and thick. The menthol effect from Proraso Green is a hair subtle to me - I just don't get a huge menthol presence. Regardless the soap is good. I did one full pass with touch-up for a CCS. The SubZero burned some and then blasted me with cold. I tried the Integrity balm for the first time from Soap Commander (I had a sample). It was really thick and didn't want to absorb too well when I put it on. I had to really massage it in for it to vanish. I'll have to try it again soon but today's application wasn't first rate. It did provide yet another layer of cold due to its menthol content.

Unfortunately an area of my neck to the right of the Adam's apple was a little irritated, most likely from my insistence yesterday of trying to get that area spotless. The TSD SubZero really burned down there. I've been getting some nice, irritation-free shaves so I was probably due a little nuisance of irritation.

Hopefully you all have had a great day so far and my wish is that it continues!

    22nd shave using this set up. It's quite clear (always has been) why we wet shavers like variety;
it's simply more fun to choose different gear everyday. For me anyway. :angelic007:

    Prep: Musgo Real Oakmoss
    Razor: Gillette superspeed flair tip
    Blade: Derby (4th shave)
    Soap: B&M Leviathan
    Post: B&M leviathan aftershave

2 pass shave today. Decided to go with the Leviathan today, made a thick lather and has such a great coffee type scent, very complex. This is last shave the Derby was feeling a bit rough. Hope everyone had a great shave!

  10. The end of the G series has been reached with today's shave with the G8. :happy036:

I've wondered why Appleby skipped the G7 in his classification of the Type G variants. I'm guessing to underscore the break in handle design which is what is most unique about the G8. I don't like the looks as much as the other handles but it is hands down the most comfortable to grip (and much of the design carried on in the Type I.) :happy088:

One nice benefit of shaving my way through the whole series was the chance to try different blade combinations since all the Type Gs share the same head. With the G8 I tried out the modified Feather Professional Blade. Smooth and sharp and probably the best of the combinations. I did re-open a weeper despite my concerted effort to avoid doing so but I don't know that I can lay that on the blade. The modified Feather was definitely the sharpest and right up there with the Plus Plats on smoothness.
So, with a smooth, smooth, smooth face I offer you the G8...:git:

    Razor: Bunny V2 NOTSO comb
    Blade: Schick Twins
    Soap: Tabac
    Brush: WD Pure Black Badger
    AS: Aqua Velva Ice Blue

I went and had full intentions of using my PAL Adjustable today. When I saw my poor Bunny V2 sitting there all sad. I had to give it a go. I decided to load up the twins for a mother cool ride. Man was I NOT disappointed. I had 2 full days growth. This Tabac lather is awesome. I got another great creamy slick lather.

First pass WTG using a Feather touch. I hold the razor just enough not to fall out of my hands soft. Then I just lat the top spring against my faced lower until contact is made. There is ZERO pull on this thing. It just slid over my face like nothing. I was thinking I was loosing my hearing as there was almost no sound. But seriously it is very quiet. I finished my first pass and did my usual feeling around and found the reduction stellar today.

Second pass XTG went just as well. I could have easily stopped there with a true DFS. Needless to say I had to go for the gusto.

Pass 3 ATG went just as good as the first 2. I finished with the best shave I have ever gotten. Today I was in the zone.

I might have gotten a good shave with a clam shell today:)
