The end of the G series has been reached with today's shave with the G8.
I've wondered why Appleby skipped the G7 in his classification of the Type G variants. I'm guessing to underscore the break in handle design which is what is most unique about the G8. I don't like the looks as much as the other handles but it is hands down the most comfortable to grip (and much of the design carried on in the Type I.)
One nice benefit of shaving my way through the whole series was the chance to try different blade combinations since all the Type Gs share the same head. With the G8 I tried out the modified Feather Professional Blade. Smooth and sharp and probably the best of the combinations. I did re-open a weeper despite my concerted effort to avoid doing so but I don't know that I can lay that on the blade. The modified Feather was definitely the sharpest and right up there with the Plus Plats on smoothness.
So, with a smooth, smooth, smooth face I offer you the G8...
