I am glad you got it figured out and have even mastered the Feather Pro blade. The Mongoose is just enough different from a normal DE razor that it takes a little time to get the hang of using it but the rewards were worth it to me.
I agree. This is one fine shaver. Maybe I need to find some Feather Pro Super blades to ring back the challenge
Our Leader 5/8 JR#8 badger Proraso Blue cream Gillette HydroSoothe balm I had lots of trouble with lather today. I'm not used to badger and my lather with it is almost always bubbly and short lasting. Too much water. The badger holds so much and I forget that I need to shake it out some more to loose some of the excess. The straight was smooth but fiddly. The hollow ground razor doesn't feel as safe and sterdy and the heavier grinds. After 2 passes of fighting the lather I broke down and got my Super speed with an Astra SP for a 3rd pass. I ended with a few weepers but no redness. The tap water stung so I skipped Alum and alcohol based aftershaves and went to a mild balm. DFS as far as closeness.
My SOTD . Red tip focus Prep- Hot water face wash Razor - red tip Blade - personna blue (3) Brush - synthetic trader joes Soap - proraso green Post shave - neutrogena balm, witch hazel Today was my 4th day with the red tip. I got a great shave today. A couple of small weepers. Using the advice from @Robyflexx . I attempted to map my beard growth again. Although I didn't have enough to map, I did notice which way felt rougher when I rubbed my face with my hand. I realized that atg growth on both my cheeks would be towards my ears on both sides. But the top of my cheeks would be towards my head. Under the jaw is towards my ear but up slightly when I get to the back of the jawline. My problem area are outside of the lips in the area for a goat tee, base of neck and upper lip going against the grain. In these areas, I always feel a tugging when I go atg, the blade is catching these hairs and always seem to be pulling at them instead of slicing. I got a really smooth shave with minimal irritation and some weepers. Good news is that I don't slice myself anymore. Happy shaving gents.
I just ordered some from Amazon. I will have them Saturday. I'm interested to see how Sunday's shave goes.
Awesome! Big step forward. Knowing your growth direction is paramount for perfect shaves. For neck passes I used to stretch the skin but eventually realized that by simply tilting my head the neck can be stretched on it's own so that you can maneuver in most directions to catch all the hairs. Must be done carefully and never get cocky there.
Focus: NF Brush #9 - Feb 18 New Forest Tubby 1 in Tigris Perla handle Leaving the wooden handles and moving back to the resin handles. This is one out two Tigris Perla handles that I have and this one does have some cosmetic challenges. The knot 24mm knot (set at 50mm) performed well but didn't quite have the same wow-factor as I get from some others. I'd rate it a 7/10. (Today's razor was a Gillette Twinjector)
Had a fantastic shave yesterday followed by more of the same today. Won't go into to much detail as it is just standard now. I seriously think I've found, "The one" I am totally confident and comfortable with the Futur. I am yet to have irritation and I have come to expect at least DFS. On a sadder note I was enjoying a week off but it's been cut short I have to go in the yard tomorrow and then work all weekend hope you guys enjoy your Friday more than I will
That's very true. I used to get the odd person ask what I put on my head. I loved telling them it was just how I shave. Now though is a whole other level. The MWF puts an incredible shine on my head I can't wait to take it through work.
I'm so happy things have come together. I certainly feel that my day starts off better with a good shave, it feels like starting the day having already accomplished something.
For me that last cold water splash after the alum over my head and face is a feeling nothing can replicate. As you say what a way to start the day. Thanks for the kind thoughts
Day 49 - 90 Day Intro to SR 18 February 2016 Ralf Aust 5/8 L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic Route 66 - Lumberjack Alum Figaró Arcviz Finally back home and hundreds of posts behind, so I will take my own advice and simply rejoin the party! Being on the road provided an opportunity to have some really great relaxed shaves. Returning home today, the Route 66 was a most excellent change from the La Toja I had used for the last week. Three passes later, it was near BBS! 74f and full sun today, and we made full use of it outside today! Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a fantastic Friday!
February 18 Weber Polished Head DE Feather (1) Kent BK4 silvertip badger Route 66 Lumberjack Alum, Thayer's Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Alt Innsbruck I skipped yesterday's shave, so I two days of growth this morning. WTG/ATG, XTG and I'm near-BBS. I had this cup made as a joke when I was in college about 35 years ago. Who said engineers were strange? I hope everyone had a fine day!
