I've been smoking quite a bit lately. At least a pipe a day. @BamaT the tobacco you sent got to me about a week ago but I was having internet problems and just now remembered that I haven't said anything about it. I have smoked more then one bowl of each and already know my favorite and my favorite pipe for each. The H&H VaPer has more perique then I think I've had in any blend and for me it smokes best I my brass stemmed maple pipe with its long narrow bowl. The University flake is quite good with an almost fig like taste. It is great in all of my pipes and the Newminister Superior slices is my favorite and smokes best in my small best basket pipe. I'm about to pack a bowl of it and smoke right now. I have also had some OGS and Captain Black Gold. I smoked one lonely bowl of the suicide blend I bought from the local shop too. Yes, it was as bad as I remembered.
Is one allowed to mail them to you? Would be happy to do so if you have them sent to my house... actually, I will be placing an order in the near future, so could add them to the cart and have you reimburse me if you like.
Well, according to US Postal regulations I can't find anything specific on pipe tobacco, but my guess is they wouldn't make the distinction between pipe tobacco and roll-your-own tobacco.
You gents have any opinions on this deal from P&C? http://www.pipesandcigars.com/mobile/samplers/103459/5-day-pipe-and-tobacco-set/?sourcekey=PC4W Not particularly interested in the blends but the pipes maybe.
I saw that. Personally, I don't feel it's worth it. They're had much better deals in my opinion. The price may be good considering the price of the pipes; but I feel like you could do better.
Yeah I'm thinking that if I were interested in the blends maybe. But I'd probably be better served getting like 2 Missouri Meerschaum cobs and a few tins I actually went to try.
Yeah. Or, if you wan't Briars, look for good inexpensive ones to start. Like Medico or Dr. Grabow. Dr. Grabow is actually my favorite pipe. And you can find all sorts of bargains on ebay.
Wessex Standard** Roma Sandblasted Stanwell Brushed Brown All great quality briar. I smoke them all in rotation.
The frugal Scotsman in me makes me naturally lean towards making the smallest investment I can until I'm sure I like it.
That's a lot of pipes for the money. Are they all new, estate, mixture? If estate, were they already cleaned up? I don't think you got beat at all, provided they aren't really abused estate pipes. I have nothing against estate pipes, I have one, and you can get some great deals on great smokers that way. They look like new in the pic.
I don't think there is a way to do it by the book. I know someone who has sent some cigars to a friend overseas, and declared them as crayons. I'm sure if some inspector opened the package, it would get tossed. My son and used to send some pipe tobacco and cigars to his best friend and his unit in the military overseas, but that is different. I don't remember at the moment how we did that, but it wasn't a problem. I can assure you any package arriving at a military base gets opened!
Shipping pipe tobacco labeled as pipe tobacco is perfectly legal. Shipping cigarettes and RYO tobacco is not permitted. The distinction is based upon the tax status of the tobacco. Customs overseas is another issue. I sent some to Keithmax and declared it as "collectible tins". It worked out.
Hey Ducky, glad you're liking the samples, especially the University Flake, glad someone could enjoy them without having to toss them. I agree on the H&H AJ's VaPer, it has a healthy dose of Perique, really a little more than I like. I may blend the remaining supply I have with a straight Virginia to tone it down. I'm especially glad you like the Superior Round Slices! They are certainly full flavored, but I don't get bombed with nicotene. The Briary, my local B&M, has a huge bag of it in his humidor room, and no one had asked for it before I did. I think that blend is really flying under the radar. And I like the dark fired Kentucky used for spice versus Perique. It's really inexpensive, when ordering a good quantity of it.
I am a Scot also, and get it. MM would afford you that chance. FYI, I don't collect pipes. I smoke. All my pipe opinions are in the "working man's pipe" realm. Stokkebye makes great bulk, there is no better value than OGS, imho. I don't do much Aromatic or flavored stuff.
