1. Hey folks,
I’ve been wet-shaving with straight razors for a few months now. I got into it via sharpening knives and axes, which left me with a lot of the sharpening resources needed to get started on razors. My first razor was a $9 eBay find that needed lots of TLC to be able to do anything similar to functional shaving. I’m working from home, so I figured it was the time to learn a new hobby whose impact on my face would be more or less private while I learned. My shaving skills have developed alongside my razor sharpening and honing skills, which means I was a little scraped up at first. Things are much better now that my bevel-setting, edge-honing, and face-shaving skills have improved.
Right now, my main razors are a Reynolds Extra Hollow Ground and a Griffin Carbo Magnetic, with a couple of non-wedge Wade and Butchers waiting to get their bevels set and edges honed. I’ve also dabbled a bit in 1950s-era Soviet razors, though none are in rotation.
Favorite soap: Taylor’s of Old Bond St, with Prorazo’s sensitive skin pre- and post-shave creams.
I had a burly mountain man beard until six months ago, which I shaved off to explore wet-shaving.
I think I’m going to like this place a lot!
