The shaving world is full of false statements, happily shared by newbies. The completely false statements I most often see are these:
- Open combs are inheritely more aggressive than safety bar
- Feather blades are really dangerous and only for experienced shavers
- You always get closer shaves with DE than with cartridge/disposable
- You absolutely need to put alum all over your face after each shave
- Coarse beard requires an aggressive razor

Then we have debatable statements, I personally consider wrong but might be true because of YMMV:
- EJ DE89 is good as first razor
- Flipping the blade makes the blade last longer

What often repeated statements do you think are wrong?

Use of alcohol aftershave is your ticket to Hell.

Oh, I forgot to add maybe the biggest myth: You save money by doing traditional wet-shaving.

My vote is for:

"You'll shoot your eye out." I mean, um, you'll cut yourself... badly.

I got very sensitive skin.

While that might be true for some, the majority of men does not have sensitive skin, they just have bad shaves.

It's the last one I'll ever buy......

You shouldn't go against the grain.

I found my Holy Grail Razor and I'll never need to buy another.

Synthetic brushes are cheap and don't work as well as badger and boar brushes.

Artisan soap at $15 and above is better than cheap soaps like proraso and cella.

You can't resharpen a DE blade effectively and trying is a waste of time and effort.

This (blade, soap, razor...) is The best/worst

MDC is too expensive. IMHO, it isn't because it lasts so long.

Pores open and close.
Mixing Tabac and The Veg creates mustard gas.
This is the razor to end all razors.
That razor is too poorly made to shave with.
You need to map your beard and only shave it this way.
You'll get a BBS shave everytime.
Shaving at midnight during a full moon turns you into a werewolf.
Everything needs to moisturize you and if it doesn't it's bad.
This $30 soap is a higher quality than this $5 soap, that's why it costs more.

Well, I've never actually cut (sliced) myself that I can recall. I have had some pretty nasty nicks. Maybe that's a distinction without a difference.

I never liked Nick either. I always felt like Mallory could do so much better....Me for instance.
