Perhaps I was caught up in a moment, but it's a darn near perfect combination of form, function and cost. Just don't get it in your eye like I did earlier today. It hurts like hell.
Wow! I love this soap. It has been the most "luxurious" soap I have used so far. It is very easy to build up a good lather with this soap. I almost always mix a bit a cream with the soaps I use, but this is the soap that I sometimes use alone. The scent is very mild and doesn't overpower anything else you might want to use. I am glad I discovered this soap. It will always be in my rotation.
Hard to find a better soap. Tabac gives you the most bang for buck when it comes to shaving soaps. Some people may not like the smell at first but after a few uses and seeing the results you'll see it's not that bad. I purchased a refill puck and milled it into a small glass bowl with a lid to save some money. While I prefer creams over soaps, I'll keep Tabac in my rotation.
Generally Lives Up To The Hype Tabac is a well researched much hyped soap. Received this soap in a trade. Lathered with an Omega 49. Shaved with a Merkur Slant and a 5 time used Iridium Super Blade. Tabac lathers easily and provides a nice cushion. Understand why shavers have a mixed reaction to the scent. Maybe best described as Euro Manly. Provided a bbs shave without much effort -- 2 wtg and 1 atg. Moisturizing is pretty good but not as good as other soaps like Cella. Wonderful soap for newbies. German soaps are boring but great performing.
Love this soap Great lather that lasts forever! Probably my favorite fragrance of any shaving soap out there! As was previously mentioned, the only weakness of this soap is its so-so moisturizing quality. MWF, DR Harris and a few others are better for folks who are predisposed to dry skin. Despite the moisturizing issue, this is one of my favorite soaps.
I like this soap however for my at least it leaves my skin a little dry after shaving. What makes up for this though is the thick lather it produces. ________
Great performer Tabac is a wonderful performing soap. Lather is great, and excels in moisturizing and protecting your face. Cheap, and easily accessible too. The scent is what I classify a normal soap scent, nothing overbearing or offensive. Definite keeper in the rotation
Amazing...I will always have! Just got my first dose! Amazing in every way. I love the smell. People categorize things having an old man scent...then why can't I stop smelling this stuff. It will always be a classic. I just want it on me. I feel the chicks are going to flock to me. Anyways, best lathering in my den so far. Love the bowl, love the way it feels. I even feel some cooling when it's on my face from the spices in it. I'm a big scent freak, and don't feel I need anything else to go with this! Very masculine, and builds the confidence. Always have some in your rotation!
What can I add that has not already been said about this wonderful shave soap? Painfully easy to created a rich slick lather with even the most basic of brushes! The thing for me is the scent. I grew up with my grandfather and he used Tabac cologne. So when I first dipped my nose into the puck, the memories that came rushing back were wonderful. The fantastic ceramic bowl is worth the price alone!
My thoughts are prejudiced by my personal preferences, so take them for what they are Slartiwharrgarble generously let me have some of his Tabac a couple of months ago, so I have a several dozen uses with it so far. It certainly gets the job done, if not quite as richly as the premium soaps and creams Ease of lathering: I have only lathered Tabac directly on my face. Once in awhile I will start out with too much water on my face and the lather is too thin, but other than that I have no trouble whipping up a good lather in 40 or 50 strokes of the brush Life span of lather: It dries a little fast for me, but it's certainly lasting long enough without losing any quality for one pass. But if I am shaving using two or three passes, I can tell the quality of the lather starts to sink. So I generally add a little water to the lather after the first pass Moisturizing: Not bad, but not stellar either. It doesn't dry my skin out like a bath soap or a low quality shave soap, but it doesn't really leave me face feeling baby soft like some other great products have done for me. Lubrication: Tabac is slick, and gives me razor a nice, protective glide. I'd rate it an 8.5, but not an 8 so it gets a 9 How protective?: The lather offers good glide and protection, and does not lose either of those qualities during the shave. Maybe it's just the way I shave, but I feel that this soap excels in protecting the skin from the razor Scent: Smells like shaving soap Price: I have seen very low prices for Tabac. If I had paid $5 for a tub of this, I would rate it at 9 or 10. For its level of performance, I think Tabac generally sells for less than its worth. But I did not buy it, so my rating here is not really my own, but I would certainly take some free Tabac again :happy102 Are you reading this, Slartiwharrgarbl? edit: what fantastic ceramic bowl?
