  2. I have heard that they are shave ready, and the price is more then fair for a Honed GD, I am not sure from the ad that he is correcting any heel issues but for that price I don't blame him..
  3. Warning Will Robinson! Danger! AVOID AVOID AVOID. Gold Dollar blades are utter crap (so I understand) and will not take a nice edge. There's a reason they are so cheap. Tho if you want a cool looking letter opener, then you're in luck.
  4. WHOAH. Some Gold Dollar razors are good shavers but they're trial and error unfortunately. Some members even here have very worthwhile GD razors.
  5. * puzzled penguin look * .... really? Am I confused then? These are the ones made in India, right? I thought they were best as box cutter.
  6. Yeah I don't think you are going to hear people say the GD's are crap, but about 70% do have issues that need to be overcome and they can be a challenge for a new honer.. But a honed GD for that price IMHO isn't a bad deal.. For the $40+ that many are charging I would change my tune

  7. Ah. OK. My bad. Post above about to be edited.
  8. Myself, I think you'd be happier with a vintage in good condition and sending it out to get honed as the % rate for failed GD's you're taking just as much chance if not moreso going with the Gold Dollar.
  9. Gds usually require some dremel work on the shoulders and the heel. It takes some practice but you can get these things super sharp!

  10. I just read the description. He claims he doesn't use power tools. I have honed over 2 dozen gold dollar razors and I needed power tools on each and every one.

  11. I have found a Dovo on eBay from a guy out of Georgia for $115 and claims they are brand new. Just ordered one and hope it will make a good first razor

  12. Just ask a very simple question when buying any straight razor... "What hones did you used to make it shave ready" that clarifies everything in a nutshell
  13. Dovo Best $100 problem solved
  14. The one I ordered is a Dovo Best from a company called nagornysknives out of Georgia
  15. The matter in the way a razor was honed can make a $5 Gold Dollar worth more than a $100 Dovo.

  16. I have 3 gold dollars. I honed 2 and bought a shave ready off of eBay.
I was shave ready and I've had no problems. You're looking at what20$. I think that's about what I paid. Not sure if it's the same person. But the description does sound familiar .
