I have a few blades that need scales but I don't have the old scales or wedge so, How do I get the size of the scales right? How do I make sure my wedge angle is correct and, how do I get the shape right so the scales don't interfere with honing and shaving?

I have some maple and some pretty dark wood that I thought was cocobolo until I saw a piece of cocobolo that I can make scales out of. I want to at least rough cut them next trip I make to my mom's house so I can use her band saw. I'll hand sand, finish, and pin with brass at home.

I think I read this months ago and then completely forgot about it now that I need it. Thanks.

Ignore the pencil markings. I decided to use a different wood for what I was sketching on this.

I'll be checking back on your progress, Mark. Nice wood.

Same results can be gained—it just requires more TIME and arm fatigue.

Seems there is a touch more pride when one can say, " handmade." :happy088:
