Here is my WW1 Khaki set that just arrived with the picture of the original owner The date on the handle is Nov 15 05
wow! Impressive, April. It looks to be in great condition and the fact that you have a picture of the original owner is fantastic.
That is the patent date. Take a look for the serial number. This was more than likely made between 1917 and 1918.
oh thank you Okay the serial number is I think if I am reading it right E703591 the 5 is stamped kind of high so not 100% sure on that My ww2 one does not appear to have one
It will not. Gillette stopped numbering for about a 20 year period from 1930 to around 1952. I will recommend a good book for you to get. King Gillette - The Man and His Wonderful Shaving Device by Russell Adams. It covers a lot of material from the inception to about the 1975. You will learn a lot of company history and about the products, especially in the 1950s and 1960s when Gillette was really branching into all areas of male and female grooming products. Your razor was made in 1918.
Thank you everyone I will grab that book! I have over 40 razors now so it should be a great help in identifying them all
April that razor looks in great condition and a picture of the original owner.. I thought I'd seen it all!...
That is not an identification book per se. It is an overview of the history interlaced with critical products but not every variation will be mentioned or seen. For additional information you will have to find a copy either in print or electronic of Wait's Safety Razor Compendium or Krumholtz's The Complete Gillette Collectors Handbook. You can also find some additional information at Jody's site. http://www.renaldo.us/ Try the internal links. That will provide some of the information you seek.
ha I am not sure If I can compete but I have a nice collection I will start posting pictures this weekend in my Den
Good score! Love the military sets! Feel free to use the serial number and date code guideline page on my web site for any Gillette razors and blades you have, and get. http://www.renaldo.us/grbd.html
Thank you Jody as you can see I have two now! I really love the fact that I have the original owners picture as well
