I have a 1912 that I bought at an antique store here that someone turned into a lather catcher. They removed the hood. Shaves good too.
In the very few shaves I've done with each, I can definitely tell the 1912 is much more user friendly, easier to get a good shave with. And if the 1912 is that good, then I definitely have to get my hands on a lather catcher!
My SEs on hand are a G-bar, a 1912, and an open-comb Micromatic. Overall I like the 1912 best for its balance between comfort and agressiveness. The Micromatic shaves closest of the three, but is a bit harsh on my face during the initial WTG pass. For today's shave I did the usual 3-pass shave with the 1912 loaded with a Pal Super, then popped the blade into the Micromatic for a careful touch-up ATG pass. Bingo! A flawless BBS shave, and comfortable all the way through, too.
