I am slowly learning that my skin may prefer those blades NOT treated with platinum coatings. Possibly, my skin prefers an untreated blade, but I'm not sure

---> The purpose of this thread is to learn more about the available blades, what their composition is, and what (if anything) they are treated with.

    I know this:

Derby - coated w/ chromium-ceramic, tungsten, and platinum
    Feather - coated w/ Platinum
    SHARP v2 - not coated?

    What else ~?

Are all of these coated blades, Rich?

I think they all have a coating on them. I'd have to double check the actual packaging and read the blades to confirm. Give me a chance to round them all up since they are here and at home and I'll see what I can find out.

Thanks Rich - I am wondering if some blades aren't coated at all.

The old Gillette's I have, for example, just say "Stainless", as do the SHARP v2....I have excellent results with these blades. I have less-consistent, less-excellent results with blades which are coated with platinum or other substances.

But if they are all coated, then my theory is bunk :D

Derbys are coated? That's a big surprise to me, since they are the harshest blade for me. I always thought that was because they were uncoated. Huh. Learn something new every day.

Derby's are a strange beast. A while back, when I had the sampler pack...I hated the Derby. Eventually, I came to them for the heck of it, and I found a new appreciation for them at some point over the past year.
---> but have recently lost interest in them.

They make my beard look BBS in the near term, but I stubble up much faster with them then other blades.

I guess we're better off asking the question. Do we know of any blade that is not coated for sure?

    That is the question indeed!

I was hoping the blade experts (cough) Rene would chime in eventually, but he's busy playing computers :rofl

Well you know boys and their toys. He's probably sitting there scratching his head and going WTH? How am I supposed to do that? Where did I put the manual. :D:D

Hmm....perhaps I'll have to try those blades. I certainly found Derbys to be rough, too.

    - Rapira Super Stainless (good luck finding one ;) )
    - Lord Super stainless (doesn't say anything about a coating on the box)
    - Gillette (super) blue blades

Id say try the Egyptian Lord blade, no mention of any coating at all.. Good blade too..

Klaus, are these the Gillette Bleues you can get in France/Benelux, or another Blue blade?
