Late 40’s Gillette Aristocrat Vintage Gillette Super Blue Blade (F1 code circa 1960) Vintage Ever Ready Badger-Lon brush Haslinger Schafmilch lather Old Spice Classic AS I had as much anticipation for this shave as a kid waiting for Christmas morning. Despite being over 60 years old, the carbon steel Super Blue blade performed remarkably well on 24 hours of stubble, showing just how well preserved some vintage blades can be. I had no irritation or discomfort on a two-pass WTG/XTG shave with some ATG touch-ups on my medium density stubble. Carbon steel is a unique and different feel from modern coated stainless blades, and the razor felt smoothest and most comfortable with a slightly steep shaving angle. Following the shave, I performed the routine of removing the blade, gently blotted away the moisture between folds of a towel, dried the razor and returned the blade, much as a shaver would have done in the era in order to maximize the useful life of their blade. A comfortable, smooth and close shave I will wear the rest of the day. Merry Christmas to everyone.
