I'm sorry if this has been done a 1000 times before. But I just created a single photo to try and easily highlight the difference between the Gillette Old, the New Improved and the New razors. Does this make it clearer?
Thank you for gathering the dats in one place @GlennConti! TSD has a deeper database thanks to members like you. I have question! Only recently I picked up several Single Ring razors. By the serial numbers they are '06, '20, & '21. They are three piece, but instead of cap, base plate, and handle - there's a cap with threaded shaft, handle attached to base plate ("press fit?), and twist to dissemble lower knob. Are these "Old" type?
The Single Ring was a type of Old Type. The bottom plate is the same. But the Single Ring did come with a thinner cap. I have several of the 3 piece Old Types and they have a thicker cap while the two or three single rings I have all have the thin cap. Because of this they do shave differently. I like them both.
Sorry guys I screwed up! I will change my photo above... Here is a New Improved. It's handle IS press fitted into the bottom plate.
Ok I reuploaded like version 4 of the comparison photo to the original post as an edit. I think that it is good now and as complicated as necessary.
I think I made the photo overly complicated. Just look at the bottom plate.... Old - Bottom plate is: Curved with 3 holes. New Improved - Bottom plate is: Flat with 3 holes. New - Bottom plate is: Flat with a slot. Will be posting a version 5 of the photo. Simpler is better!
The New Long Comb and Deluxe plates are flat but the Short Comb plate has a curve to it. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
Yes it does have some curve. Thanks. I want to make it as simple as possible so people can easily classify into 3 catagories: Old, New Improved and New. All the New have a slot. They are the easiest to identify. Let me think more about my wording?
The key patent for the New focuses on the slots and corner tabs. Pretty much covers it. Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
version 7 looks good..in reality simple is good.there are variations in all three types..that cool be confusing..on could sub categorize the variations at a later time..a we building a proper gillette history with all the razors in color? would be cool..
