Anyone using it? Anyone shaving with it? It has a 200+ year old history, the new formula soap is a far cry from the old 8 or so ingredient soap. I think it’s worth a look at. It costs less than other big name glycerine soaps. I found it locally @ an Indian market for less than $2 a bar. Which is less than big online. I understand it shows up at local dollar stores. Pears is latest addition to my budget list of shaving accoutrements. I ran across an article on pears, then skimmed a few threads on it In a shaving forums. I have also been reading up on glycerine it’s humectantt effects and how amazing it is for skin. Not to mention it’s a lather booster.( that’s another story), and many other shave products have it as an ingredient. I Finally was able to get my hands on a few bars, the gold one. Turns out they have blue bar which is. Mint, green with lemon flower extract. I have yet to shave with it yet. It does lather well and leaves face feeling very soft and well moisturized. I’m staying true to this months focus, so no shave with it it yet, but have been using it as part of pre shave. It’s definotely worth checking our.
I have used pears to shave with. It did fine. So did witch hazel. So did mayo. The only glycerin soap I regularly use is the VDH. I will be looking forward to seeing how it goes for you.
I wasn't aware it could be used for shaving. There's good info on it at Risegrooming.org. (same place I ordered all my Rise shaving foams from).
being from england originally, my parents always had pears, imperial leather or yardley soaps around the house well into the eighties..
i used to chip it up,melt in microwave and mix with chipped up williams soap.it made for a pretty good shave.regular pears soap sometimes left me feeling oily in the summer.
Not Pears but I lathered some Neutrogena face soap the other day. I was impressed with the lather. I'll give a test shave in the near future.
I’m told Pears is available at the “dollar tree” stores for ..... $1 Neutogena was my first exposure to glycerine soaps, they look the same, feel the same... would not be surprised if formulas are similar.
My wife was born & bred in London and she uses Pears soap all the time. Gets it at Dollar Tree stores. Veddy British she is. Still drives around (in the summer) in a 1969 MGB roadster.
They have it here with the local venders. I use it on the regular. Even for my hair. Does a good job.
Yeah, the TR6s were beasts..on a straight-a-way, but couldn't match the handling of an MGB. Here's a clip of me and my daughter taking a spin a few years ago.
