Friodur Friday! Crown king makes a slick soap. This blade is super smooth and provided a great shave. I finished with Myrsol and am ready to start the day. Have a good one gents...and safe weekend.
today I used: Clauss 6/8 full hollow round end one of my first few. she ain't no beauty queen, but it fit and sharp and handles so nicely for me.
6/8 Wacker Inox C&S Oxford and Cambridge Thater knot/ homemade handle Knee replacement surgery went good but I blew out some stitches yesterday during PT so I'm flat on my back for the next 4 days. This is from Wed. shave. I'll post another pic of today's shave later. Have a good one.
5/8 Grelot TOBS Sandalwood soap homemade handle/IB 26mm synthetic "monster?" I made this handle the night before surgery and put in the IB knot. Plenty of lather with an "old reliable soap" and a nice shave. Have a good one.
Define 'pricey'...which I suppose is all relative. Even the mottled stuff comes with a sizable investment Reminds me of using fossilized walrus ivory (FWI) on guitar nuts, pins and tuner knobs. Looks great...but at a price.
Shave 57 26 February, 2016 WD 5/8 Route 66 Lumberjack Plisson Synthetic Alum TSD ISZ AS Splash Pinaud Lilac Vegetal Have a great Friday!
Good morning TSD - I just had my first Straight "shave" ever - Mitchell's Wool Fat - The Grosvenor "Finest" - T.W. Lang "The Gaelic" 11/16 followed by - Gillette Slim Adjustable/Polsilver SI - Tüff sensitiv Rasierwasser I bought this beauty on Ebay a few weeks ago and a guy from the German wet shaving forum honed it for me. Since this was my "maiden voyage" with this razor I started very cautiously ... and that might have been the reason why this first time felt a little tuggy and bumpy. I did not use any pressure at all (just as I got used to with most of my safety razors) but I guess you have to work differently with a Straight, a little more boldly and vigorously. And maybe I did not get the angle quite right. On the plus side: I performed a WTG pass on both of my cheeks (with change of hands) and managed to not cut or nick myself. For the rest of my shave (neck and complete second pass), which ended almost BBS (with the exception of one spot on my chin), I used my birth quarter Slim on 7.
You did good I would not recommend boldly and vigorously. My first shave was similar, don't worry it will improve and you'll take more whiskers off next time. You will find the correct angle it just takes time to build the proper muscle memory and get confidence. Welcome to the Darkside!
Well, I'm still trying to get the hang of SR shaving, with this being my 4th complete shave. I used my no name Soligen, Maggards synthetic, Dr Pennskin's bleeker street soap and a knock off skin bracer after shave. I definitely did a better job on the chin. I still can't properly shave the area of my neck just below my chin. There was some tugging on my upper lip, but after two passes, not bad!
Absolutely it gets easier. It just requires both time & practice! One down…many more to go! today's shave: vintage Tally Ho Sheffield razor from Frederick Fenney Co. (1824-1852)
February 27 Henckels Twin Works #50 Edwin Jagger DE89 - Feather (3) {Pictured - Didn't use) PSO, Hot Shower, Nivea Face wash, hot towel Omega 10066 Boar Shaving Brush Route 66 Sweeney Todd soap Alum, Nivea balm,Pinuad Clubman AS Mod Cabin Honysuckle Beard Balm First shave with a straight completed! I was planning to just do my right cheek, maybe left cheek, but it was going well, and I'm a little thick headed, so I went ahead and did my neck too. That went well, so I did an across the grain pass on my cheeks, and a south-north on my neck, which isn't quite against the grain, I don't think I will be able to do against the grain there... That also went well, so I did a third pass - south north on my checks and another on my neck. All of this was 'baseball' pattern, lathering in sections. I did pretty good with both left and right hands, had a little shake starting out. It's a bit disconcerting using something that sharp on your face.. but once I got a bit of a feel for it, the shakes went away and I got into a great focus. I did nick my left earlobe very very slightly, no blood even, but I feel it. Razor burn? Yep! Not as bad as I expected though. Alum told me where I need to pay more attention, as did the Pinuad. BBS? HA! Not even DFS. I got a lot of smooth spots, but plenty of rough patches. I haven't shaved since Wednesday morning, I thought it may be easier my first shave with a decent beard going. I don't know if that helped or hurt, but I at least got everywhere some. Overall it was much better than my first DE shave, but I just kinda had at that with no research at all. This time I've both had a few weeks of DE shaves, and watched a ton of videos, read advice, etc.. I'm happy with my first SR shave, but clearly there is a learning curve to be tackled.
