I received two boar knots from Virginia Shaving and two synthetic knots from Maggard Razors. That allowed me to finish three brushes. The fourth brush still needs staining and finishing before setting the knot. Pictured are #51, #52, #53, and #54 (still to be finished).
More soaps hahahaha. Ive got a problem Maggards has the last remaining supply of stroppe shoppe. Get it before its gone.
This Beaver Woodwright Captain's Pipe aftershave is amazing! I have the Vie-Long horse brush soaking I'll do a test lather here in a few minutes, it didn't stink out of the box but once it got wet.
Lots in the mail today. Pictures of everything except a Lady Eversharp (she's currently bathing and not ready for photos). Some Old Spice items - Whitewater A/S and Cologne, and Old Spice Leather A/S. I've seen Whitewater posted in some members shaves but never smelled it. I already have Leather cologne so the A/S completes my set. Some NOS blades sealed in their packages. I've got a Durham Duplex razor and a couple three Valets but I don't own a Curvfit so maybe it's time to buy one. Burley A/S - a full bottle and it's well preserved.
I just hauled samples of Tabac AS, Florida Water, Gabels Bay Rum, Gabels Sta-cool, Floid Amber, and Pinaud's following : Clubman, Vanilla, Bay Rum, Special Reserve, Citrus Musk, Lime Sec, Musk and, Lilac Vegetal. I like most of the but the Bay Rums, Special reserve and Musk might not get used more than once. I already knew I was chosen by the Veg.
I used to use Old Spice Whitewater back when I was new to shaving. I think it was 15 years ago or so.
I didn't rinse the soap out of my Vie-Long after the first several shaves. The stink was gone after around four shaves. I now rinse it out and it no longer stinks.
Give Special Reserve a chance. The initial smell isn't what you're after. You're waiting for what it smells like later on. (the same could be said about the Veg) Use it on a Saturday morning and then go out and do some manual labor. It's a he-man scent with a capital "He". I find when I'm wearing Special Reserve that the women are afraid of me and desire me all at the same time. (at least that's what I tell myself)
I was going to give them all a day to dry down on before I decided if I would allow it in the house again. The initial sniff wasn't nice but I'm hoping its better on.
After a good lather with Arko the brush smells much better. I read this brush doesn't have much backbone, what I've found is that I had to apply a lot of pressure for the brush to splay out, an amount that I normally would not apply to any brush. I'll leave soap in it tomorrow! Thanks for the tip B!! K
Well I couldn't resist it anymore. I have samples of Route 66 soaps in Black Pearl, Sweeney Todd, and Ghost Town on order. I was going to go with the 12 pack every scent but its been out of stock on one scent or another every time I've looked in the last month. I'll chip at it instead of getting them all at once.
I didn't think much of the Vanilla the first time I sniffed it but eventually got a sample and just recently got a full size. I've got the Musk but always seem to reach for Royall when I'm in the mood for musk. I'm definitely with you on Bay Rum. I wish I liked it and my wife likes it but it just isn't for me.
The mailman was kind enough to drop off two things this past weekend; 1) Another small, vintage American Shaving brush - this one a "Whiting Adams" one. $6 2) A rare, white Wilkinson Sword bonded sampler razor (yes @Sabre it's very white) . $5 In box, case and w/ all paperwork.
My Semouge 620 arrived today. I'm not struck on it. I'm a bowl lather guy, not a face lather one. I'm thinking the loft is not tall enough. I wish I went for the 830 instead.
It always blows my mind a bit when considering the many decades something like this has survived - and stayed in such amazing condition.
