Razor: Gillette 195 Fat Boy (f1) 1960 (5) (3) Brush: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Boar Mug: Old Spice (early glass Mug 01) 1947 first glass mug Birth Year Cream: Cella Blade: Feather (2) Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, OS Shulton Lantern 1973-75 Whipped up the Cella with no problem with the OS Boar. The Boar is stiff with a lot of backbone which is great making lather. The tips are getting softer but not as nice as my VDH Badger, which I would put at the bottom of the list of my Badgers. Actually if it weren't for the fact that it is an Old Spice cobalt blue brush I would have never picket it up. I'm Just an OS junkie. My FB did it's usual great job, using no pressure, for 2 quick passes. The WH felt good, followed after it dried with some Jack and after cleanup some of that great OS. Y'all have a good one.
Here's what I went with today. Merkur Futur ( 1st pass 6, 2nd pass 4, 3rd pass 2.5)/ Lab Blue (3) JR #23 Silvertip Brush Stirling MITA Shaving Soap Maggard Alum Block Fine Snakebite AS Splash BBS all around. Alum block was silent and the Fine Snakebite delivered a refreshing chilly blast. Hope everyone is having a great day and have a great shave.
My SOTD Prep- cold water face wash Razor- hoffritz slant Blade - Personna blue (3) Brush - trader joes synthetic Soap /cream - Simpsons unscented with Cremo Post - witch hazel, neutrogena balm Aftershave- Pinaud bay rum The shave started good, but then.. I noticed for pass 2-3 I was applying pressure galore!! The razor was scraping the hell out of me. With the clean up using extremely light to no pressure I was able to come out smooth.. But of course I had weepers and irritation by then.. My face was messed up.. Oh well.. Just got to keep on shaving! Happy shaving gents!
It is just their unscented PSB, but they add some menthol to it. I have the non-mentholated version as well.
Short answer is, I am pretty happy with them. I started wet shaving in late December of 2015. With great enthusiasm I tried a different blade every time I shaved. "They" were all terrible. "They" all cut my skin and left weepers and cut very little of my beard. I was becoming convinced that cartridges or electric was the only solution. Then I decided to use only Personna blades, TOBS cream and L'Oreal balm. As bad as the Personna was it became pretty good after a few shaves. I won't even mention the first few blades as they weren't at fault. Since then I have tried only, Personna, Feather, Kai and now Croma. The last few shaves have been with Feathers. Right off the start, I had the feeling that the Croma wasn't cutting much. After the second pass, there was quite a lot of stubble left. So, I did three passes with a touch up after. I often just do two passes. After I was done, I have to say that that was probably the most comfortable shave I have had yet. It is a pretty close shave too. I think I like these Croma's. Kai are still number one, but these Croma's will get another try for sure. They may even push Kai to number two.
