What Straight Razor Did You Use Today?

    Jim - you know that I am completely inexperienced with straight razors, right? So keep in mind that these observations come from a total noob ;)

    I think, prepared by someone who knows what he's doing, these chinese blades shave as good as any other razor. The 208 is definitely sharper than my other straight ... have to have that one honed again, I guess. From what I have read, the steel of the Gold Dollars is pretty hard, so the blade should keep its sharpness for quite a while (can't comment on that, because mine is brand new). I like weight and handling so far - it is maneuverable and feels pretty sturdy at the same time.

    But (of course there's a but ;) ) you have to be aware that you get what you pay for, so don't expect some high quality finish/workmanship here. The scales are cheap plastic, the spine is not exactly straight (though the edge is), which will make honing a little tricky for inexperienced users, mine has a little dent at the point and the bottom jimps are pretty poorly made as well.

    So for 25€ modified, honed and shipped I did not get a precious collector's item, but a workhorse that does a really good job.

    Today was SR shave #10 and I'm calling it a DFS!

    I used my Engstrom frameback, along with my omega boar brush, Proraso red in my mug and finished off with Shop Rite menthol aftershave.

    Most of my time was spent working on my chin and upper lip. I'm getting better at that, but I'm not yet proficient on those areas.

    It's a really good smooth shaver. A different grind and steel from all my other razors, being a modern one.
    01 Steel. The feel is great with the wood scales.
    If I would change anything, I would make the scales just a little thinner.
    But overall a good shave and it holds a clean edge.

    great shave today
    I used my newly-made new( I'd venture to say it's now better than it ever was);
    Clauss #107 6/8 full hollow squared end, beautifully outfitted with honey horn scales and supporting a brass lined wedge.
