Just tried a super speed I pick up in the big lot of razors I bought. I actually put a derby blade in it I I was kind of shocked. I gave me a pretty smooth shave. I thought I hated derbys. I guess different combinations of blades and razors can be very confusing. Looks I'll be experimenting for a long time to come.
Yes. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...-tip-for-1958-tv-super-speed-flare-tip.50380/ Thanks Jim !!
How can you tell it's a TV special. And what makes it desirable and what's the difference from a super speed or flair tip.
TV specials look just like a regular flare tip super speed except they don't have the horizontal lines in the handle. They were only made in 1958 as a special edition for the "Calvacade of Sports" programme on T.V., which was sponsored by Gillette. Their cases are a bit different than the regular super speed cases as well. That red case I see in the top edge of your photograph looks like a TV special case. Edit: my collection of 1958 razors. The TV special is on the left. The case for it is on the right. The 1958 regular super speed is right next to the TV special. It's case is the one on the left. The 1958 red tip (heavy) and blue tip (light) would have had a maroon case and light blue case respectively.
Nice collection of SuperSpeeds. I'm glad you've found a razor/blade combo that worked so well for you. Which SuperSpeed did you use the early model or the Flair Tip.
Surprisingly they all shave just a tad different. The Gillette Super Speed is one of my favorite razors. Nice haul! Enjoy.
I think the super speeds are some of the best razors ever made. They're dependable, indestructible, practical and provide great shaves. They're also so plentiful that the cost is a fraction of other vintage Gillettes.
Just to add another variable we have country differences. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...llette-flare-tip-razors-pictures-added.50360/
