Jim, don't forget to tell us what you think of it. I love mine as I can count on it for a smooth, quick and comfortable shave.
Blue is mild, unpainted/silver is regular and red is aggressive. I believe the black tip is also a mild razor, but just not from the flair tip era.
I think I need to join a Pen and Paper forum...there must be some out there...as it seems most of what I'm waiting for these weeks are..pen and paper related; - Two Parker 25 pens (fountain and rollerball), - One 80ml glass bottle w/ Diamine Black Onyx ink, - A pack of Parker rollerball refills, - A pack of Parker fountain pen cartridge refills - Four BanditApple notebooks - Three Calepino notebooks - One Hobonichi 2016 Techo planner - Three Field Note notebooks - California, special edition At least it's all less than a cased Fatboy....
The Black Tip is a regular 40's style Super Speed in every way...except it was manufactured during the Korean War (1951-52) So they couldn't use brass (the War Dept. needed all the brass they could find for artillery shells)....Gillette used their experience and innovation to find new materials to keep up razor production....Sooo the Super Speeds made during those brass rationing years were made from either Steel or Aluminum, and the tto knobs were Black plastic, therefore the nick name 'Black Tip'.... The Steel ones are just as aggressive as any other 40's style Super Speed but the aluminum ones were a tad milder because of their feather like weight....
For under $3cda I decided to order a small spice grater for fine shredding of shave soaps into shave bowl.
I got a user grade BT back in January. It was my first. I really like the feel of it and it delivers a great shave. When I saw this one, I had to have it. It is a beauty for sure. However, it will have to wait until April for its first ride.
My camera quit on me a couple of month ago and I have been using my wife's camera. I decided it was time I got my own, so here goes. Also, I am picking up this Baili DE razor at a really cheap price. I will probably put it in a pif for a newbie.
I use a tablet for picture and posting convenience. Is the Bali the same as Weishi ? I have a Weishi in a travel case for travel purposes only. Not bad but no vintage Gillette flare either.
Just wait and see. In 40-60 years.. The weishi will be our Gillette... Lol our grandchildren will be scouring looking for the gunmetal chrome Weishi 9206 with the limited edition blue plastic case and the rare red liner. There will be a nos set somewhere that still has the tiny brush and unopened pack of Dorco..
I actually got a tablet back in November and tried it out. I must be an old fogy because I just could not get it to work satisfactorily for me. I took it back. A flip phone, a laptop, and a digital camera is about as advanced as this old guy is going to get.
I don't think the Baili is Weishi made. It is the first Chinese TTO that I've seen that doesn't look like a Weishi, plus it is about 1og heavier.
Tablets and picture apps can vary. I use a Ipad with a resizer tool for posting to T.S.D. and limit the picture sizes to 750 for max post sizing. The advantage is the one stop picture and posting from same device for me. Some cameras can also do this.
My Merkur Futur with a home made stand from a friend of mine should be here tomorrow or Saturday. I will likely keep the razor on the stand until I think I am ready.
