What is the difference between the shovel head and the 1912? I've seen them where they are interchangeable and I've also heard they are very different. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
"Shovel Head" is a nickname for the Ever-Ready 1924. The 1924 is characterized by the cap being hinged at the ends of the comb, rather than at the opposite end of the base plate. Here is a typical 1924: The 1912 is a type of razor originally marketed by Gem Cutlery Co. and also at various time by Ever-Ready, Star and Treet. It is characterized by a spring-loaded cap hinged at the rear of the base plate with a tab to be pressed to open it. Here is a 1912, this one a Gem Damaskeene: They both take a standard single edge blade. The 1924 is generally considered more aggressive. Hope this clears things up. --Bob
It happens. I don't think the designers anticipated that their products would still be in use 90 years or more after they were made. The good news is that a replacement won't be hard to find and it won't break the bank. --Bob
