Is it just me, or have prices on vintage razors dipped a bit in the last month? (With the exception of Gillette adjustables and Super Speeds, which are usually pretty stable).

I've noticed a slight change, what I can't figure out is why is the only razor I'm looking for at a premium?! Birth year super speed. Go figure..

As an occasional seller I find the opposite with regards to fees. Ebay fees have become ridiculously high compared to what they were. I'm trying out Etsy for the first time and have heard of a few other sites making strides.

I just paid $41 for an Aristocrat. Some lacquer loss on the doors, but overall, pretty clean. All my stuff is user-grade, anyway.

Well now, fees would be different.

  15. Good morning all! I have been collecting, buying and selling razors on Ebay for about a year now. What I have been seeing is prices stable or rising for razors OTHER than Gillette adjustables with the exception of Fatboys. The final sale prices of Slims and Black Beauties (long and short handled) is 20-25% lower than it was this time last year, or last summer for that matter. Seems odd to me because the Slim is my absolute favorite of all the razors I have tried. My standard goto razor is my 1966 L1 birth year AND quarter (yeah, I know) Slim. Anyway, my two cents...

Yeah, I specifically left out non-Gillette razors, because I have noticed that prices on those have doubled or tripled in the last year or so, and have remained steady with a mostly $10-20 variance on the high dollar razors. Condition of the razor is also a factor.

I just gave one of those away yesterday to my soon to be brother-in-law (and childhood friend).

I was going to give him my PAA Double Open Comb instead, but had a change of heart at the last moment. Figured an adjustable would be a better razor for a wet shaving newbie. Didn't have the heart to charge him for it, the blades, or the brush. :)

Do you think that our no buy '16 has anything to do with it?

No, but I do think that the new razors (and their relatively high price tags, in most cases) on the market have had a bigger impact on vintage Gillette prices than people realize.

With more people buying modern stuff, those dollars are not being funneled into the vintage market.
