  1. Oh yeah, shaving heaven. :angelic007: Sounds like a keeper. :chores016:

I believe this is the only actual E1 I know of on any of the boards. I am sure they are out there but few and far between. The Ds and Fs are common in comparison. Congratulations! :eatdrink047:

I just took the blade out of the G-Bar and put it in the ER14 for tomorrow's annual shave. This was to be a week of G-Bar sweetness, but The Bunny is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. It will finish out this month of SE shaves. I am sorry, but this morning during my shave, I couldn't help but think about The Bunny.

  13. In preparation for March 24 I continued on the SE path with my grandpa's 1912. It had been a long time since I used it and it surprised me with how smooth and close it shaved. I could have stopped after the first two passes but kept going. Hardly any need at all for touch-ups. :happy036:

My only do-over would have been to palm strop the new blade. I usually do this but forgot as it had been so long since I used a new GEM blade. A few minor weepers on the third pass as a result but that just means it's properly broken in for tomorrow with my 1914. :happy102:

  15. I'm a newb when it comes to SE shaving, bur so far I love my 1912. You bring two questions to mind. First, how do you / should you hand strop the blade? Second, house long do these GEM SE blades last?

  16. This is a Controversial Subject..In my experience an SE Multi Faceted Blade will be Blunted by hand stropping...Now that's all well & Dandy & that's why they will feel Smoother..That said it doesn't take much to mess them up..If you use a Shim in the Older SE s it can make them smoother with the self same sharp blade from New..That's me Talkin..:angelic007:

  17. I don't think stropping stainless blades helps. However, I have been using the carbon steel blades. They need to be cleaned and dried after each use. I actually belly strop them. I stretch out the material on my A-shirt and strop each side eight times. I have been getting good results. I can do a week of shaves with this method, and I don't have a problem with rust.

  18. Jim, don't you find the blade gets stuck in you six pack while belly stopping ?

  19. Corking, of course, would be even more controversial. :happy102: @Herm2502 , I simply strop the blade 10 or 20 times on the pad of my hand before using the first time. Seems to work for me - otherwise I tend to get weepers on the first shave. I could also have simply stopped after 2 passes and done touch ups then and avoided the weepers that way.

As to length of life, GEMs are good for about 4 3-pass shaves for me. I've seen others say they get more. YMMV, of course.

  20. That would be a one pack, Rob. I get about 6 inches on each strop, so it is more efficient than palm stropping. BTW Nice horny toad.
