Thank you very much! I may keep writing about my shaves. That way I write more than just class notes throughout my week. It was nice to take my time writing something and not just quickly scribbling what a professor says in class
Mainly this razor just doesn't get used much. Monday's shave was just OK. The razor is so extremely light the I'm actually finding it a little difficult to handle. I've found that I tend to like heavier razors. Tuesday's shave was better, a little closer and a little easier. Still not as close as I would like, midway between CCS and DFS is my guess. Closer, but I wouldn't pass the cotton ball test. One thing I like of having multiple razors is that each one has it's own 'personality' and it takes a shave or two to remember the quirks and foibles of each one. So I'll give this one a few days; first with the Gillette 7 O'clock Blue, then the Astra SP, that oughta give me a real good feel for things.
My SOTD Razor - gold tech Blade - derby Brush- trader joes synthetic Soap - arko Post - witch hazel, neutrogena Cologne- citrus musk First try with the derby. Right away I noticed it's not a sharp blade, But it's smooth. It did give me irritation all over though. With this razor I get my best shaves. I'm going to have to try the blade in another razor, maybe a more aggressive razor. The end results of my shave is im very smoooooth but with irritation. Happy shaving gents!!
March 29,2016 Razor: Schick J1 (1) Brush: VDH Badger Cream: Cremo Original Pre Shave: Homemade AS Dove. Men+ Care Injector shaving IS different than DE, by quite a bit. My Lady J sure knows her business, no weepers of any kind. My 1st pass ATG, without a hitch, smooth as silk. Next pass #2, was a repeat of the 1st, only in reverse, almost quit there, but i still had a little clean up to attend to. Added a thin, wet layer of lather and with just a few strokes, Voila! a near BBS. No burn or irritation anywhere. When i get to my G4, it should be a tad closer, i can hardly wait. Happy camper! Bill
Thank you @Robyflexx. For a smallish knot, it holds a great deal of lather. The handle is a bit small for my hands.

SOTD March 29, 2016 Prep: Warm shower Blade: Personna lab blue Razor: Vintage Gillette Travel Tech Brush: Trader Joe's synthetic Lather: Swedish Dream Sea Salt Soap Lather #2: TSD unscented shave stick Post: Witch hazel splash enhanced with Fine Platinum, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up A perilous shave this morning. I bought some Sea Salt Soap yesterday in a shop, made by Swedish Dream. The scent is great. It says its good for bathing and shaving which should have been a red flag, but I went with it anyway. I posted about it in the Shave Soaps thread yesterday and got some comments and past experiences. I went ahead and shaved with it this morning to at least give it a go. The lather started off decently. I thought it was going to work out. The first pass above the jaw was pretty good, but the lather began dissipating and drying up. I rehydrated it several times. I went VERY carefully around my neck area and then washed it off and decided to switch soaps. The cold water in the sink bowl did not work to wash the soap away from the razor so I had to drain and refill the sink with warm water. That was annoying. I was worried about irritation so I lathered up some TSD unscented from the shave stick and did a quick clean-up pass. My doesn't feel that great and has a few red areas. I think that has calmed down some between shaving and posting this. I ended up with a marginal CCS. That was a victory given the circumstances. No nicks or weepers surprisingly. So, the Sea Salt soap is good for the shower but not good for the face. Lesson learned. It was worth a shot at least. The GOOD FOR SHAVING slogan on the box should not be taken literally though. Hope you all have great shaves and a terrific day!
Thank you. Thanks, Andrew and we are, finally, having some lovely Spring weather after a terribly wet winter!
