An Otto Deutsch Hans in good shape is a relative rarity in the SR market. Cell rot compromises many of the models one finds. If the blade looks sound (no spotting or degradation along the scale line on the face of the blade) and the scales aren't cloudy (should be translucent, not opaque), then the asking price is fair.

Well today I went and looked at the Otto Deutsch Hans straight razor and discovered it wasn't in as good a shape as first thought . The scales were cracked and all cloudy looking the blade edge looked like a serrated butter knife it was just a lot more work to restore than I thought I was capable of doing so with a heavy heart I had to pass .

    Too bad.

Don't feel too bad though— you could've paid $15 + $3 shipping as some lucky duck did for this gem of a razor on ebay...:D

By the way, this photo depicts clear evidence of advanced cell rot (both the scales and, obviously, the blade are shot). Buyer thinks he can probably salvage the scales. Wrong.
He'd be better off making new scales from soggy cardboard....

First time straight shaving my dome. Take a lot more focus! Maybe that's fear -albeit a healthy fear I dare say. The lakewood fill hollow did the trick. Mixed with an omega 48 brush and Pacific shave company cream. I'm left with a little DE clean up. Don't think this will be a regular thing but I didn't want my head blade getting gummed up with 5 days of growth. In my mind, I just notched up a level on my man card. Lol
