Joining up with the SE crowd! I've used this GEM Micromatic for 4 of my last 8 shaves and I must say that I really like it! I have a PAL blade I purchased at the local grocery store and I am impressed with how smooth this combination is. The shaving angle is instinctive and I like how easy it is to get a good clean shave. If I had only known that this razor existed earlier...nah, I would have still spent too much money on stuff. However, I think my cost for this razor was $1.67. How long can I expect SE blades to last? I normally get 7 or more shaves from most DE blades.
YMMV of course but I find 4 3-pass shaves it about it before they start to tug. That's a nice looking Clog-Pruf you have there.
Aye yi yi MrB! I've been working undercover for the Gazette and had him right where I wanted him and was just about to get the scoop!
Welcome Roby! A whole new world is opening up for you. It only gets better. I just started this 'wet shave' routine a year ago and, at 60, had the best shaves of my life starting with DEs. I was hooked. Five months later SE SEptember on the 30Day Focus thread introduced me to the SE world and I was hooked again. I feel like a kid in a candy store! And possibly a very expensive candy store! Great bunch of guys to help you out here as you know, but watch out - they are expert enablers!!! (Hey did anybody see that pristine and boxed D Type on the Bay today? Yowzer!)
Welcome Troy! You'll find a great group for advice here. In my very limited SE experience I've only used GEM PTFE blades and have found them to be very sharp, yet extremely smooth. I've only pushed them to 5 shaves max, as I'm still learning technique with those razors.
Really nice, clean, smooth shave with the Schick G1 this morning. I always love using this razor. A couple of tiny weepers but otherwise quite smooth and enjoyable. Finished with Pinaud Lilac Vegetal for this first time! The Gem Clog-Pruf is my favourite of the three micromatic family. Nice find and well built razor. Sounds like you'll be enjoying many great shaves.
I mostly use the Gem stainless steel ptfe coated blades and easily get a weeks worth of shaves from each blade. I've gone as high as 2 weeks and was still getting a reasonably good shave. For comparison, I used to get 3-4 shaves out of DE blades (I think - it's been a couple of years). Welcome to the wonderful world of SE shaving! --Bob
Other razors that perform well for me and are similar to the clogpruf are the bullet tip and the Gbar. The blades last probably 4-5 shaves on average in my case.
Another great shave. This time it was with my Schick Adjustable with a twin blade. No fuss, no muss, just easy whisker whacking goodness leaving me smooth as can be. Sometime the shaving gods are with you and I seem to be on at least speaking terms with them at the moment. Planned Monday Injector Party I didn't list which blade I'll be using in the type D tomorrow but it does rhyme with "tailspin"
I didn't list which blade I'll be using in the type D tomorrow but it does rhyme with "tailspin" I think I already read about that in the Gazette when waiting in line at the supermarket.
Purely coincidental, but I picked up a Bullet Tip, G-Bar, Valet and Super Speed for $20 shipped today. After I used my eBay Bucks™, the actual cost was around $12, so I think I did pretty well. Hopefully the Valet is one of the models that takes the Feather blades. Always wanted to try one of those. Edit: Funny thing is, I'm sure I've handled every razor listed above at some point in the TSD Travel Box.
